They have padding in the boot and it provides a lot of ankle support. I ended up purchasing 2 pairs. I didn't plan on it but I purchased mine in 2020 and when I decided to buy my son a pair I purchased him the exact same skates as I have. Well his skates fit my foot like a glove so I ordered the same size as him.Now I have 3 pairs of these awesome skates.We are beginner skaters however my son is skating a lot and has learned so much within 6 skating lessons. He can crossover, skate backwards, and pivot. He loves these skates. I'm still learning at a much slower pace than him. I'm a 8.5 in women's (so a 7 in men's), and I went with the 7, and it fits like a glove!
