## Description

Buy Wheat Berries grown from the fertile soil of Washington State. The Mader family has been involved in agriculture for five generations. Our farm operations span across the south east part of Washington State and are headquartered in Pullman, WA. In 2001 we acted on an opportunity to add a grain and legume cleaning facility to our operation. Our Cleaning Facility, Palouse Trading is located in Palouse, WA - just a short drive from Pullman. Palouse Trading was originally named Wallace Grain and Pea when it first opened its doors in the 1930's. The plant was designed for quality not quantity and has cleaned legumes and grains for the international market and domestic consumption. Our food is appealing to our consumers because of its nutrition, aesthetics and traceability to our farm. Each bag of food comes with a QR Code that allows you to see harvest details of your food, seeding dates, the field we grew it in and more. All of our products are certified Kosher Parve, Non-GMO Project Certified and our farming methods are Certified Sustainable by the Food Alliance. Our foods are different because Steve & Kevin Mader plant, harvest, clean and package at our own facilities in Washington State - there are few if any companies that can track your food and details of your food back to the field like we do.

Review: Exactly what you want to make your own flour - I make bread. Only 100 percent whole grain bread. I grind this myself (from a grinder I bought on desertcart) and it makes such a difference in taste and texture. Very easy to grind and yes...bug free:-) The ground texture is like most whole wheat flour...this is just the wheat berries with no chemical alterations. Very healthy and just what I was looking for.
Review: I USED TO SHUN WHEAT - I have avoided natural WHOLE wheat for a very long time. 30 years easily. Not because of digestion issues, but because of the taste. My first encounter with the "funny brown" bread took place in W.Canada (the plains) I was but a child. So the folks we were staying with only served this bread and it was DELICIOUS. OK,back to the USA, and we never saw this brown wheat bread in any of the stores. So we ate Silver Cup white bread /Levy's Rye for what seemed forever........until you move out and discover other kinds of bread. As years went by, more wheat products were available to the American family. I have tried in the past to eat supermarket/bakery wheat bread, wheat pita, wheat rolls , and found it tasteless. So do the birds. I have noticed many times that when I throw another wheat product outside for the birds they do NOT EAT it?? But, throw out some cheap white bread, they fight for it ?? I recently purchased an out of print health book and the good Doctor within wholeheartedly advocated the use of old fashioned wheat for health, vitality and as a source of natural B complex. I found his take on this biblical grain to be solid and factual. I searched on desertcart for a source of Non-GMO wheat berries. Okay, do not laugh but I live on the Plains of Kansas. Wheat country, yet I chose to purchase wheat berries online. I am VERY HAPPY that I chose this brand, delivery was quick, preparation is not difficult( there is a lot online for recipes ) and the wheat is absolutely delicious, with a fresh nutty? taste. I would like to add that the product was FRESH, not overly dusty and quite free of debris. Feed your family whole wheat and reap the benefits.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I wonder when did you harvest wheat berrys, it only has expiration date. How long do you guys consider best use periode? 4 or 5 years?**
A: Hi, We harvested the wheat berries last summer, we only sell the current crop year. Wheat if stored properly can be used for up to 10 years or more. We are always trying to provide the freshest product available for our customers, so you can get the most enjoyment from them.

**Q: Can the flour of this be used to make indian bread (known as chapati / roti/ paratha in india)?**
A: Yes! I have successfully used Palouse white hard wheat to make roti and paratha. It is essentially atta flour. I like to grind mine between superfine and medium for paratha. There’s a YouTube channel called “Easy Steps” that has some videos on grinding flour for Indian bread.

**Q: Will these sprout? I'm wanting to make sprouted wheat tortillas and sprouted wheat bread**
A: I soaked these for 8 hours, changed the water and soaked another 8. I drained them and left in the mesh bag for 24 hours. I had close to a 100% germination rate- if any didn't sprout, I didn't find any. These are excellent quality wheat berries.

**Q: You come up in the search for 'organic wheat berries' but I do not see it in any of the copy on this listing. Are your products organic?**
A: You should ask Palouse. I ordered mine when they claimed in the copy to be organic. The Palouse brand includes many different farmers. I am speculating that perhaps some farms raise organic and others not. But I would go right to Palouse for the answer. There is a tag on the bag that identifies the farm where the berries were grown. Hope this helps

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Adds New Meaning to Bread
*by K***N on 17 October 2020*

Yes. For years I baked bread and other things using the store bought bags of nutrient depleted and aging flour. Then I decided to go out on a limb, purchase a grain mill and some grain and see the difference. To everyone who wants to try grinding wheat into flour to make baked goods, you will taste things that you never tasted before. And when you go to the store, and buy a loaf of preprocessed bread, sit down with a slice of it, and a slice of the bread you make from freshly ground wheat . . . . well . . . I hope there is a smile on your face. I am new to grinding my own wheat berries for flour. I have been a bread baker for 45 years. This is a quality product. I looked over everything. All the berries looked good. No stones, bugs, or rotting berries. And the price was good. My advice to anyone who wants to purchase this product in bulk quantities is: purchase airtight containers and both moisture absorbing and oxygen absorbing packets to keep inside. Based on my research. If you do only these 2 things, you will preserve these wheat berries for many years, or perhaps even a decade. And, the flour they produce tastes wonderful. For bread I tend to mix a 50% to 50% ratio of hard white and hard red. Have other grains I ordered, like oats, barley, and rye, and looking forward to experimenting with other recipes in the future. Oh, one other piece of advice. Buy some sieves. Use a 40 for bread and general purpose flour, and a 60 for pastry flour. Just a suggestion. I am totally satisfied.
