I have used prescription-strength 5% lidocaine patches in the past, and these non-prescription 4% patches are equally as effective. These menthol patches provide a bit of soothing relief almost instantaneously, before the lidocaine, which takes 10-20 minutes to begin absorbing through the skin, has a chance to kick in. The patches are easy to apply, although the adhesive does have a tendency to stick to itself after the backing is peeled away, but it can be straightened out before applying it.
