Review: A Wonderful Rollicking Ride in Sherwood - Two other books by Roger Lancelyn Green (Tales of the Norsemen and King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table) are amongst my favourite from my childhood. I read them innumerable times, and they along with other books by members of The Inklings (Tolkien and CS Lewis) basically defined the archetype for those kinds of books which I now find myself drawn to. I only pieced this all together relatively recently, however; searching online for editions of books I half-remembered. When I came across this copy of Robin Hood by RL Green I didn't hesitate to "add it to my basket" (and there are many more besides which I will be investigating). I am happy I have made these investigations. This is another classic which though written for children is no less enjoyable for adults. RL Green's works have a wonderful simplicity to them. They are the distillate of what a really good story should be. His attention to source material is also admirable, and within the introduction of this book he has provided a fascinating outline of the history of the legends of Robin Hood. I couldn't recommend this book and moreover this author more strongly. Review: Excellent night time read for the kids - It's nice to have a well- structured novel to read to the kids with no gimmicks or post - modern twists/ a nod and a wint to the parent who is reading it. Robin Hood is a classic story beautifully written with each chapter topped with some verse from an obscure medieval poet. Illustrations fantastic too. Kids love it and it's a great intro to the relationship between story/ myth and history. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | 0141329386 | | Best Sellers Rank | 339,009 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) 2,201 in Fairy Tales, Folk Tales & Myths for Children (Books) 2,337 in Classics for Children 7,108 in Action & Adventure for Children (Books) | | Customer reviews | 4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars (758) | | Dimensions | 2.54 x 12.7 x 17.53 cm | | Edition | 1st | | ISBN-10 | 9780141329383 | | ISBN-13 | 978-0141329383 | | Item weight | 210 g | | Language | English | | Print length | 336 pages | | Publication date | 29 Jun. 1995 | | Publisher | Puffin Classics | | Reading age | 9 - 11 years | ## Images ![The Adventures of Robin Hood (Puffin Classics) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/712BUdRyfPL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Wonderful Rollicking Ride in Sherwood *by G***4 on 21 August 2014* Two other books by Roger Lancelyn Green (Tales of the Norsemen and King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table) are amongst my favourite from my childhood.
