It must be polarizing like cilantro. This brand tastes just like beer. Not nasty at all?** A: I guess we all have different tastes, I love cilantro! I tried the brewers yeast with different mediums and it still tasted bitter to me. It sure didn't taste like beet to me. My Husband LOVES beer but said it never tasted like beer to him. **Q: Has anyone used this brand to make lactation cookies?** A: Yes, I have. The typical lactation cookie recipe calls for 2-4 Tablespoons of brewer's yeast, but 4 tbsp was too bitter for me. Keep it around the 2-3 tbsp mark, and they'll be delicious! **Q: can I use it to brew beer/wine?** A: Best answer is no. If it hasn't been deactivated it would make crummy tasting beer. Use dry yeast from grocery store instead. **Q: What brand is debittered?** A: Oh they all are but the texture and taste vary with every brand. Some atre more nutty in taste. That’s good. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Quality Brewer’s Yeast — Perfect for Lactation Cookies and Baking *by on Reviewed in the United States February 10, 2026* The NOW Foods Brewer’s Yeast Powder is a really solid quality product, especially if you’re using it for recipes like lactation cookies or adding nutritional boosts to foods. We specifically use this for making lactation cookies, and it mixes in well with dry ingredients. The texture is a fine powder, not overly clumpy, which makes it easy to blend into dough or batter without affecting the consistency too much.Flavor-wise, brewer’s yeast does have that natural slightly bitter, nutty taste (which is normal), but in cookies or baked goods it blends in well with chocolate chips, oats, peanut butter, or brown sugar. If you’ve used brewer’s yeast before, this tastes exactly how you’d expect — clean and fresh, not stale or overly harsh. It’s also nice knowing it has naturally occurring protein and B vitamins, which is why a lot of people use it for nutritional support or postpartum recipes. The 1-pound size is great because it lasts a while, even with regular baking.Pros:✔ Fine powder — mixes easily into recipes✔ Fresh, clean brewer’s yeast flavor (not stale tasting)✔ Works great for lactation cookies and baking✔ Good source of naturally occurring protein and B vitamins✔ Large 1-pound bag lasts a long time✔ Good value for quality and quantityCons:✖ Strong natural yeast smell (normal for brewer’s yeast, but noticeable)✖ Slight bitter taste if used in large amounts without sweet balancing ingredients✖ Not the same as baking yeast (important for new users to know)Overall:If you’re making lactation cookies or adding brewer’s yeast to recipes for nutritional purposes, this is a great quality option. It mixes well, tastes fresh, and the larger bag size makes it practical if you bake regularly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Add to your shakes / smoothies *by on Reviewed in the United States August 9, 2026* Taste is pretty noticeable. Pretty much sawdust. Benefits of consuming brewers yeast are definitely worth trying for yourself. Old school health supplement for protein shakes. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quality Brewer’s Yeast *by on Reviewed in the United States June 14, 2026* I have been using this product for at least 2 years now as a to supplement my dog’s food. The my dogs seem to really enjoy eating this; I have yet to have any of them snub their noses at it. The texture is a super fine powder, so be careful when administering it since it’s very light and can blow right off of the spoon if you’re not careful when you’re measuring it out. It’s easy to use and I think it’s had a good effect on my dog’s skin and coats because I’m not seeing any of the flakiness or oiliness that I have in the past. Some people say that it works well as a bug deterrent, but I cannot attest to that claim. None of them are any more energetic than they normally are since using this, and I have not seen any other side effects at all. It has many benefits that I have not listed here, but it’s one of those tried and true supplements that many people seem to stand by. Including me! ## Frequently Bought Together - NOW Foods Supplements, Brewer's Yeast Powder with naturally occurring Protein and B-Vitamins, 1-Pound - Badia Organic Ground Flax Seed, 16 oz - Superfood High in Fiber & Omega-3, Certified Organic, Non-GMO, Baking, Smoothies & Cooking - Bob's Red Mill Wheat Germ, 12 Ounce --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/6031372-now-supplements-brewers-yeast-powder-super-food-1-lb](https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/6031372-now-supplements-brewers-yeast-powder-super-food-1-lb) --- *Product available on Desertcart South Africa* *Store origin: ZA* *Last updated: 2026-10-07*
