I though it would be LEDs but they work on the Jacob ladder's principe making littles electric sparks (with probably a gas in the builb that makes them reddish), that's probably the main reason why they're not expensive since they hardly contain any components apart from the builb and two flame-shaped electrodes (those with LEDs cost about the same thing for only two) Only needed 10, 12 on the package so I have two spares, they all work now; however, one didn't, looking at it I saw that the two electrodes inside were touching each other, closing the gap between them where the spark should be, solved the problem by simply giving a gentle hit to it to separate the electrodes inside. They come in a box with several small individual boxes inside to separate them so not too much risk for transport. Dont expect to use them for lighting as they don't provide much, if any light: they are made for decorating (and do it well). Don't know how much time they'll left but I'll update here once I'll know. - - UPDATE - - ok about 13 months later, 9 out of 12 still working; since I need 10, must order again but for the price I would say it's ok. really don't last as long as LEDs, though.

**Q: Are they dimable?**
A: No, they aren't dimmable because they are already dim. It gives zero actual light. It is only for decorative purposes.

**Q: How do I get these to work in all sockets of a multi candle chandelier?  The only way I can get to work is to put a regular bulb in one of them?**
A: Sometimes the small light bulbs don't go in completely. So you have to turn them into the socket slowly. If you turn them into quickly they'll go slightly sideways and won't make the connection. The other idea is that the bulb is broken and so it's not working so take it out and try another one..

**Q: Can I use these with battery candles?**
A: No.  These are 120 Volt bulbs.

**Q: Can i use this in a night light?**
A: These produce a flickering light that is significantly dimmer than a standard 7W (or even 4W) bulb typically used in a night light. They only weakly illuminate an 18" circle or so. I'd have to say that while it would let you know where a wall was, it wouldn't light up your path.
