The serrated edge helps hold on to your pieces and helps you cut more accurately. It works great on very small pieces of fabric and larger ones. I have carpel tunnel and the finger positioning does relieve stress on my wrist as I cut. It provides less strain on your arm. It is not heavy, but because it is surgical steel, feels very strong.
