The surface is solid instead of hollow. The hollow ones don’t make a good Smashburger because it makes patty shapes but it can’t smash them all the way down. This seems like it will last for years. Also, it has a very simple wooden handle. If it ever breaks, I can make one out of a dowel rod. I think this is a very good product with a reasonable price.
