I struggled at first to get the unit to grip as I found the upgraded plastic covers initially slipped on my particular oil filter. However, with a little perseverance, some double-sided tape on the filter to improve friction and the use of a longer torque wrench to apply the pressure and twist in one single action, the troublesome filter was released without making a mess. The trick is using one single action as grip is designed to release once the rotation stops. Once it took hold, the filter was not able to resist being released. It was the only tool that would have released my particular filter due to access and angle of application.
