They do leave a little indentation in the bottom of my piece, but it's pretty minimal and the majority of the stilts have retained their pointed tip Review: A must have for ceramic projects - Allows me to glaze underside without sticking. So far I've not lost a single pin. Also provides for better airflow around the piece. This is a follow up. I've been using these (yes I have more than one) and I consider them to be absolutely essential. They allow me to glaze the bottom of the piece which gives them a nice look. Sometimes the tip of some of the pins to stick (because I glaze the bottom) but break away cleanly losing only a small amount of the tip of the pin. In that case I have to sand those spots on the pottery piece but it's a tiny area. Even when that happens I can use the pin multiple times before having to discard the pin.
