Review: My own guilty pleasure - a wonderful debut - Pretty without all the make-up and a fabulous voice, she has written a great set of songs. Perhaps my favourites are the slower ones - Casual (great video), Coffee, Kaleidoscope and Picture You are all wonderful - but there are a few uptempo bangers, especially Femininomenon and Guilty Pleasures. OK, a little explicit language but I can live with that. Reading a biography of her and the singers she was influenced by, I was initially surprised to see Karen Carpenter's name listed; but, when you hear them, you can understand why Karen is there. Other names like Lana Del Rey, Stevie Nicks and Ellie Goulding seem more likely. In repeat listening, I realise there are no filler tracks here, so it's 49 minutes of sheer guilty pleasure. It means a 4-star is now a 5-star album.
