I had an Anker USB C cable that worked from the laptop to my screen but nothing from this device, so initially assumed problem with the adapter, however I saw that it said 10Gpbs on the video output port of the adapter so wondered if it was fussy about the cable, even though it doesn't need that fast. I bought a 10Gbps cable (https://www.desertcart.co.uk/dp/B09J9BXFFD?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title) and it works perfectly. So if you are struggling to get it to work, consider a newer cable before giving up. It also works with my Xperia 1 VI, although currently screen output is vertical (hopefully just need to find right config). It works flawlessly with the Alt mode video and PD pass through. It fast charges the surface while the display works as expected. The USB connector could do with being longer as its very short and leads to the adapter hanging off the side of the surface.
