If electrodes are only rutile-covered, they are not suited for vertical down positions. However, if the electrodes are Rutile-cellulosic-covered ones, like our Stark electrodes, you can use them also for welding in the vertical-down position. We hope this helped. I’m welding 6mm flat bar and 6mm round at between 30 and 35 amps. These rods are giving very good performance with good penetration. **Q: Will these be ok to weld 20x20 mm angle iron. Thanks** A: Depends on thickness of steel not width. Assuming your not going bigger than 4mm and not structural then 6013 will do it but if thicker you would be better with 6010 for better penetration. These 6013 rods are good quality. I found them better than super 6. 6013 Is a low penetration rod but plenty good for general maintenance, fabrication and non structural applications. I use 6013 on most things and 6010 when I want deep penetration on thicker steel, occasionally 7018 as an alternative low penetration rod but they are not as forgiving. Work well, get a nice bead. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good rod but slag is a little hard *by M***C on 13 February 2019* The rod themselves arc easily and produce a good weld. The only criticism is that the slag is harder to remove than from some other rods/welds. Maybe if I play with the amps a little I might find the perfect power but for now 4 stars.
