The install is straightforward. A screwdriver was the only tool I needed. It was interesting that the placement of the screw holes in the original Rainbird ESP matched exactly to the locations in this new controller, and this is appreciated. I decided not to use the WiFi module at this time. The interface looked different, but it seems to function and program very much like the original system. In my opinion, this unit is a very solid replacement for the older ESP control module. This unit is very compatible with the original install including mounting, connecting existing field wiring, and programming the water schedule. I pulled the 1-4 zone valve interface out of the old ESP module and put it on a shelf to have if needed later. I reused the original 3 zone module (5,6,&7) that was in the original install. I have room for 2 additional expansion modules. I tested all zones manually and entered the watering program. At this point I would buy this unit again. I have not tried the rain gauge feature on this one. On the prior one I did use a Rainbird rain gauge, but I'm not convinced it really made any difference. It has been very reliable. This one is to replace another brand that came with the house. We did have a Station-module go out last year. The sprinklers on the zones connected to it would come on, but then just shut off within a couple of minutes. I would say that we've gotten out monies worth out of it though. And the modules in this updated version do look a little different anyway. I found that purchasing this model and an additional module (from Amazon) was the best bargain. And we have two PVC electrical conduits, for the sprinkler wires, going into each of our controls.
