I keep a trauma bag in my car and these Rhino splints are a nice addition to my gear. They're compact enough to stay out of the way until I need them (so far, not yet) but several friend who are EMTs swear by them. They are easy to apply and conform well to the joint/affected area. Guys with hairy arms may not be excited by the tape used to hold them in place, but hey, the hair grows back. That amputated part will not (if it's not stabilized correctly.) And I have successfully used this on myself, just to see if it can be done. If the injury is to a lower extremity it is easy to do by yourself. However, if you have just one good arm to use, it's not easy. Doable, not not much fun. Rhino makes products in quite a few sizes - it may be hard to choose which sizes to stock.
