The rash is usually gone within a few applications. I always dry the area & reapply after each diaper change. Once the rash is gone I usually switch to Aquaphor or A&D Ointment. The paste is not overly smelly or messy. The red tube of this brand is very hard to wipe off after the next change. I do not have that problem with the yellow tube.
