I was looking for a long, pretty straight black skirt to wear with and evening dressy jacket. I believe it will work OK, though its a little casual. But I want to comment that yes, the material is rather thin. Its spring or summer weight material and not fall or winter weight material. In my case I plan to wear leggings under it anyway, so the thin material doesn't bother me that much. The length does bother me a bit though. I'm 5'3' and 115lbs - I got a medium to hoping to try to get a little longer length. Didn't work. The medium is a bit big around the waist, but I expected that and will alter it, but the length is just barely OK, within an inch of the floor if I put it all the way down, not folding the waist, and wearing it hipster style (below my waist) and flat shoes.
