If you try to hold the screw by the threads it will most likely chew up your pliers. Best bet, drill a pilot hole a tad smaller than the screw then start your screw in the pilot hole. **Q: Can I use this for Roofing nails to do a roof? Does it have a slot that is thick enough? what are the slot thicknesses?** A: The tool could be used for a VERY SMALL roof job! You must use 2-hands to place a nail into the tool, then position the loaded tool on the shingle, and swing the hammer to drive the nail. After the nail penetrates the shingle and is gripped in the sheathing, you must open the tool, slide it away, and finally drive the nail home. Awkward, but no smashed fingers! The grip is also a little wide and was a stretch for my small hands. I was also wanting to use it to guide a small manual drill bit to make sure I was drilling pilot holes straight. Unfortunately the drill bit bites into the plastic sides and widens the hole. Not a product flaw as it doesn't advertise this for that purpose. If the holes had been reinforced with aluminum or other metal liner would make this a more useful tool for non electric hand tools and not just holding nails. I wonder if the holes hold up when holding screws though.
