It's "stepped" in about 3 or 4 circumferences (think a round stepped pyramid). IMHO, it seems pretty awkward though to connect it to the sander. Your best bet for functionality would be to connect the adapter to your shop-vac then run a length of the flexible 3/4" (or whatever the size is) corrugated, black plastic hose from there to the sander...imho. **Q: Is this a hook and loop sander** A: Yes it can be used with hook and loop sanding discs.
