One reviewer says they are plastic.** A: These are wooden lacquered and the have little grooves in the bottom for gripping food better **Q: Where is it made ?** A: MADE IN JAPAN **Q: Are lacquered chopsticks safe for everyday use?** A: Yes they are, I carry them everyday in my purse. **Q: how do these chopsticks handle noodle soups like ramen, soba, or udon?** A: They handle ramen fine, I haven't tried the others myself. But it all depends on the cook time and your willingness to wash them after. If the noodle are over cooked and a bit mushy, the chopsticks will cut right through them.
