Review: DO NOT HESITATE - 3 year old less than 20 lbs (12ish) female chihuahua- rat terrier mix. Vaccinations for first 6 months. Her name is Vivienne. My little doggy had diarrhea. She first began with a little diarrhea coupled with vomiting. I was so worried. I looked up natural treatments for it. First, she wasn't eating but NOT lethargic. She drank water. Her diarrhea was very runny and her throw up was clear with a tinge of very light pink. It wasn't bloody, but had a little red fleck here and there. Could have been from broken capillaries. As I said before, she was not lethargic, but I was worried for numerous reasons. I keep an eye out because as you know, dogs eat weird stuff. Once I caught her licking something in the carpet. Quickly, I looked to see what it was and it was a tiny little screw. There weren't anymore around and I have no idea where she found it. Worried, she could have eaten something like that (foreign body) that might need surgery, I waited. Sad truth, no way I could afford a 1 to $2,000 vet bill, and you know how it happens: we just need to rule out (fill in the blank) so lots of testing is done. So, she had diarrhea for about 5 days and during that time she wasn't really interested in food or her kong. I feed her cooked boiled and shredded chicken breast. She seemed finicky about it one night so I backed off from giving her treats. The only ibes she gets are all natural, minimal ingreduents. The only questionable one is vegetable glycerin. She tends to be allergic, so when sge gets sonething she shouldnt eat, obsessive licking and scratching. She always loves the boiled chicken, but one night she wouldn't eat it. The next night she ate just a little. The next day I smelled it and it didn't seem right. I threw it out and made her fresh. She ate it. I wonder if she got a parasite or salmonella from the chicken. So diarrhea ensues. THEN she's trying to vomit several times in one day. With the diarrhea and vomiting I was up with her on and off most of the day. You cannot leave your dog alone if they're sick. Here's what I did and I think it helped. I gave her little bits of raw honey from our area. Tried to give her plain yogurt but she wasn't having it. Took the honey, but it on my finger and lightly pressed it behind her bottom teeth on the inside. It worked like a charm. She had energy was still drinking water but when she slacked off I'd put water into an eye dropper and squirt several in making sure she was drinking it. Hydration is VERY IMPORTANT, when they have ongoing diarrhea, add vomitting to that, not good. Watching their urination output VERY impotant!important! She STILL has diarrhea. It's been about 5 days. It seemed like forever. I was worried. I came across thus product abd saw the reviews abd rating. At the time it was 4.7 so I thought, sounds good I'll give it a try. I knew at the very least it would help her gut health. I ordered it, spent the extra $2.99 for next day, WORTH EVERY PENNY. It came the next day (promised between 7 AM and 11:30 AM) It arrived at 10 AM. I WAS THRILLED. Began giving her the paste in the syringe. I started with 1 ml and graduated to 2. I think in hindsight I'd begin with 2 ml. I'd say it took almost 2 days until we had a regular poop! I was so happy. Listen, have this stuff on hand just in case. Dogs get diarrhea and they vomit. It's a good way to restore the gut. I did not use the capsules, just the paste. The paste smells fine. Reminds me if bananas. It us a little gritty. Placed it on my finger abd scraped it gently on the back of the bottom teeth where she could lick it off. She licked a bit of residual off my finger too, and she is very picky. All in all, I would have taken her to a vet if thus persisted. I think the most important thing was that even though she had stints of sleeping and resting, she was not lethargic or even acted weak. I always weigh the benefits against the risks. I mean we love our babies right? But look at the whole situation first. I cannot say enough great things about this product! KUDOS! KUDOS! KUDOS! P S. I gave a wee bit to my 16 year old kitty. He kicked it no problem. I felt it couldn't hurt and would help his gut.
Review: Happy fur babies of all ages and species - Used to have to pay almost $100 for this at the vet! Best stuff on the market. Has worked for my cats, dogs, and my puppy. Read the dosage carefully and this should start working within a few days. I kept my puppy on this while he was getting his vaccines bc his stool was loose and then weaned him off. However I don’t think continuing it would have been harmful. I am not a vet so consult yours

## Questions & Answers

**Q: how is this different than purina fortiflora?**
A: There are actually a number of differences between the Proviable products (paste and capsules) and the Fortiflora products. 1. CAT/DOG FORMULATIONS. The Proviable products can be given to both dogs and cats, whereas Foritflora has different formulations for dogs and cats - because Fortiflora adds vitamins into their product whereas the Proviable is primarily prebiotics and probiotics.2. PRODUCT TYPE. Proviable has two products in this kit - paste, and capsules that contain a dry powder. The paste contains a variety of pre/probiotics, as well as kaolin to help firm up stools, and is meant to be given in the short term ("48-72 hours unless directed otherwise by your veterinarian, as potentially constipation could result with prolonged use at higher than recommended doses"). The paste can be added to food or given orally. The capsules contain a dry powder, can be given daily in the long term (or for a shorter duration), and contain the variety of pre/probiotics. The capsules can be purchased separately from the kit. The capsule can be opened and added to food, or given orally to the pet. Fortiflora is a dry powder, containing one pre/probiotic and multiple vitamins/nutrients. Fortiflora's dry powder comes in packets and is meant to added to food. 3. NUMBER OF PRE/PROBIOTICS, VITAMINS/NUTRIENTS. Fortiflora contains only _one_ probiotic, then includes a number of vitamins and nutrients that are often found in a pet's food. Proviable contains _multiple_ kinds of pre/probiotics, and does not add vitamins and nutrients. 4. ALLERGY CONCERNS. - Fortiflora's first ingredient is animal digest (see info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_digest). You cannot know the actual source of the protein (chicken, beef, pork, etc), which can be of great concern. *Do not use if there is a protein sensitivity. - The Proviable Paste has no proteins and instead uses a artificial beef flavoring - thus no protein. However, the paste does contain soybean oil, and some pets have an allergy to soy. *Do not use if there is a sensitivity to soy. - The outer casing of the Proviable Capsule (the gel capsule itself, _not_ the powdered ingredients inside) is made from gelatin. Gelatin is derived from collagen, obtained from a variety of animal-by-products - so this is also an allergy concern. However, since you can open the capsule and add the dry contents to food, your pet does not have to eat the gelatin capsule. The powder in the capsule does not contain soy. *The Proviable capsules are safer for a pet with food sensitivities - simple open the capsule and add only the powder to food. **Q: is it the same product that we buy from our vet? the packaging looks somehow different.**
A: Not sure since I never got it from my vet but I totally recommend Proviable products over FortiFlora....I don't use this particular one though....I buy the capsules ONLY to mix with wet food. The box of capsules alone is available on Amazon also.

**Q: How can these caps be opened and sprinkled on pet's food? Won't stomach acid kill the beneficial bacteria before absorption?**
A: If you eat yogurt, your stomach aced doesnt hurt the beneficial bacteria. I know they work, i have a cat with IBD, as long as she is on them she is good. Tried taking her off them, before we knew it was IBD and thought it was just an upset tummy, and she was sick again. They work and I am so grateful for them.

**Q: Is there an expiration date on the package? Curious as to how long it might keep if kept on hand for when needed.**
A: Yes. I purchased the combination tube and capsules plus another package of capsules only. The date on the outer packaging on both is a little difficult to see as it's indented into the packaging rather than printed. The tube itself has a printed date on it. The capsules that I purchased separately have an indented date on each sheet containing the capsules.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Re: shelter kitten. Stick with it for the full 10 days
*by A***E on September 15, 2025*

Read why you should get this for kitten diarrhea: So I adopted a feral kitten from a rescue. She was scared and stressed (understandably) when she came home, so the diarrhea that accompanied her was somewhat expected? Or at least not cause for concern. She had been tested for everything before adoption. She was running around and playing with no other symptoms. She had gone through different courses of antibiotics and antivirals when admitted to the shelter. And 1 month later, kitten was still not having solid poos, despite her getting comfortable in the home. And the smell was so heinous coming out of something so fluffy and little! 🤢 Researched probiotic benefit after courses of antibiotics and other medications rescue/shelter cats may have had before they come home to you, that really impact their gut. Also the impact of stress and transition on kitty gut health, switching to new food than at the shelter, etc. Started Forti Flora and there was no sign of improvement after about 3 weeks of daily use. Did more research. Discovered forti flora only has 1 strain of probiotic. Enter PROVIABLE. PROVIABLE has multiple bacteria strains to help recolonize in your pet’s tummy after being out of whack. And this 10 day pack came with the anti-diarrheal paste to firm up stools from the off. Due to the reviews, I was expecting a miracle in like 2 days which did not happen. I kept up with it, giving her the paste AM and PM for 3 days (IN wet food she didn’t notice it, nor the powder capsules) and the capsules every morning. It’s now day 9 and I just cleaned out a solid poo from the litter box! My house doesn’t smell to high heaven. I just bought the 30 day pack of the capsules to continue this regime until she’s consistent and then will slowly ween her off it or add to her food weekly just for digestive health. So if you’re scared and frustrated with your new kitten’s loose poo, I’d try this before going to the vet. Because frankly, if all the testing has been done before you adopted, when you take your little one to the vet, you know what they’re going to do? Write a script for PROVIABLE for $40 at the office, and say to come back if it doesn’t work for more testing. And you can just do that by buying it here on Amazon and if it still doesn’t work, you can go to your vet and tell them you already tried this. And definitely pick this over forti flora.
