Doesn’t matter since it’s not touching the food. Super strong and very handy tool. To pick up lid and rest lid on top of it !! **Q: Would anyone recommend purchasing this item for use at home? In other words, do you use it with your dutch oven, when taking it out of the oven?** A: I agree with previous posts. It would be like using a cannon when a pistol would do! I would simply use potholders, but I would not use the this dutch oven in my gas oven at home. **Q: What is the top metal bar, near the handle, for?** A: Not really sure. I wrapped my fingers around it when using it. Also, note that the metal above the bar is twisted.
