How about in a steamer?** A: No, it can't, the body is plastic. It can be used to test dishwasher temperature, however I wouldn't put it in a steamer as the temperature of steam is way higher. **Q: Could I use this for telling the temperature of a swimming pool please?** A: Yes I don't see why not. I bought mine for testing the temperature of the lake I swim in regularly! **Q: Can this product be used to take the temperature of a commercial dishwasher?** A: The manufacturers advice is: "It is a waterproof thermometer and durable enough to use for checking the final rinse cycle temperature of commercial dishwashers." The auto shut off is 35 mins, so as long as the cycle is shorter than this, it should be possible to read off the minimum and maximum temperatures recorded whilst in the dishwasher. Because of the longer wash cycles it unsuitable for domestic dishwashers. Food Safety Direct. **Q: would this work for measuring the water temperature in a shower?** A: As this thermometer has a very fine tip you will struggle to make enough contact to gain an accurate temperature as it is really designed as a rapid response insertion probe. If you can catch the water in a container then use the probe to measure the water temp that could be a solution.
