It fit perfectly the prior vent cover. **Q: What is the distance between screw holes?** A: 10 and 3/4 (10.75) inches. I replaced the original vent cover and it fit fine. **Q: will a 4 x 10 fit in a 3 3/4 x 9 1/2 opening?** A: Yes it will work because the iner dimensions is smaller then the outside diameter so your good.if u have a hole exactly the sides of this vent then it won't cuz it won't have to were to screw too.so yes your good this is perfect fit for the measurements your have... **Q: Can I paint this?** A: I ended up returning because it was thin and cheap.
