As it has corner tabs that help secure it to a duvet cover, the option of using the quilt with a cover iis there, if needed. The duvet arrived well packaged and vacuum packed and looked very thin with lots of wrinkles. I had my doubts about whether iI would be able to use it as a winter duvet. I shook it out and put it in the tumble dryer on low heat for 15 mins. So, yes, a king size fits in a tumble dryer, so hopefully it will also fit in the washing machine when the time comes. It came out of the dryer wrinkle free and the filling had expanded to what I think is a true 10.5 tog duvet. The box stitching prevents the filling from clumping and was spread evenly throughout the duvet. The duvet fits on the bed perfectly with plently of overhang at the sides and bottom of the bed and looks impressive. I thought i might need to used an extra throw over it but no need, as It is light but very warm and comfortable and provides good insulation. Given that I don't know yet if the quilt will fit in my washing machine, I use a top sheet under it to protect it, to increase the time that I will need to think about washing it. Overall, I am extremely happy with this duvet and will never use a traditional duvet again. It is a game-changer for anyone who struggles with putting on a duvet cover.
