Used primarily when rebuilding engines etc bearings etc I did use to lightly coat rings on inserting into bores means know start up that all surfaces in contact with bushes etc are coated on start up ,ie waiting for oil pressure to build up to lubricator all moving parts ,would think standard oil ‘swirted’into bore would suffice??? **Q: Is it a red colour Assembley Lube ?** A: Without taking a look, from memory it was red and very gooey **Q: can this be used with normal 10/40 oil** A: As far as I'm aware using with normal 10/40 oil is no problem. Just used this when replacing lifters and cam bearing and stripped out oil pump (so dry start). Previously ran a 20/50 synthetic oil in the engine and changed to 20/50 mineral oil So synth/semi synth or mineral. I'm replacing all the bearings in the gearbox of my 1969 classic motorcycle. Putting this on dry bearings while rebuilding gearbox seems like a good idea. Quite gooey, but this will help it stay in place until the new oil is whizzed around.
