It has a pleasant smell which is not too strong, just enough to make the room smell nice, but faintly for a few a days. It has left my carpets looking visibly cleaner and is very effective for higher traffic areas, especially when used with a Bissell pre treatment spray (I use Bissell Pet Stain and Odour Pretreat spray which has enzymes in to really take out odours) that you simply spray on and leave for 3-5minutes before washing. The amount of dirt that you pour out the other end is shocking when you have cleaned a carpet you didn't think looked so bad!
