Until I purchased this product I had been using a cheaper cutter that required precision and sometimes multiple attempts until I got the right cut. Why is it important to get a cutter that gets the cut right the first time? Well, when you're rolling out tens of meters of piping for new construction it's not so much of a problem. But when you're making a repair on an existing line you'll get yourself in a bind if you end up cutting off too much pipe to get it right! And sometimes you're holding the cutter sideways and in certain angles that makes it hard to get a precise cut. With these Ridgid cutters, due to the design of the cutter and and the blade (on my other cutters the blade wasn't set so well -- which was half the cause of the issues) you get a great cut with no skill required. I also like that it doesn't ratchet. Never liked the ratchet ones. Review: Sharp - Very sharp! I might need stitches after I forgot this was in my backpack. This thing works and cuts really well. But the latch that holds it close is... Not so good. It doesn't click into place or anything. It's clear they expect tension to hold it. Problem is what if it's in a tool bag and comes undone? And you reach in grasping for something? And your finger finds the blade? I didn't even realize I'd been cut until I saw the blood. There was a lot of that... So works great, good quality as far as I can tell, they need to do something about the latch.
