Review: Love these smart bulbs; more features than Hue - UPDATE: When I first purchased these bulbs in the Fall of 2028, the installation and set up was a pain, but since LIFX has continued to update and improve the process, I feel comfortable up-ing my review from 4 stars to 5. All-in-all, I would definitely purchase these bulbs again based on the research I’ve done on comparing them to Philip’s Hue and similar bulbs. These smart bulbs are great! They are BRIGHT and have s slew of features that make them fun to use and versatile (color cycle, music visualizer, “spooky,” etc...). And they work with Apple’s HomeKit (at least mine do… you may have to have newish ones). BUT they were difficult and frustrating to set up. I had to contact LIFX support to get help several times. (BTW, LIFX support was absolutely fantastic to deal with: prompt, generous, easy to work with and understand. They even sent me 2 bulbs to replace ones that I couldn’t get to work at all. Everyone I corresponded with was great, however Taber Dullea went above and beyond the expected. Kudos to you!) The bulbs will work fine for a while, then inexplicably loose their connectivity to the LIFX cloud and HomeKit. One piece of advice that I found helped a lot: set up the lights one at a time and when you’re located near your router. I happened to have a light bulb tester (basically a socket and a plug) and an on/off switch already, so I used those to set up each bulb one at s time. That helped a LOT! Putting the bulbs up in ceiling fixtures and then trying to set them up was a challenge.! You also CAN NOT use them with a dimmer! I had to take out the Lutron Caseta switches I had put in, which now i have no use for… so my LIFX installation was doubly expensive: new bulbs and switches AND my investment in the Caseta equipment is now sitting unused in the closet. Another disappointing revelation that didn’t dawn in me until I had them installed was you basically loose the convenience of walking into a room and flicking s switch to turn on your lights. The switch has to be left ON for the LIFX bulb to remain connected to the LIFX Cloud; if the switch is OFF there’s no way for the app to talk to the bulb. There are many workarounds to this (check out flic) and there's always the “Hey, Siri” voice control, but it’s just a little annoyance that I hadn’t included in my decision to buy these bulbs. LIFX releases updates to their iOS app as well as firmware upgrades regularly, and with each new firmware update, the lights work better.
Review: Mini size but mega color! - I've purchased two of these but didn't leave a review until the third one here. I heard of "smart homes" but didn't think it was that interesting, until I learned about LED lights that could be set to any color. I chose the LIFX Mini Color as it had a middle price and didn't use a hub unlike other LED lights, which hasn't caused problems, even with the three lights in the same general area. (If a light doesn't respond, just turn it off then on using a light switch.) The lights are easy to set up. Install the LIFX app, then locate the light, give it your Wi-Fi password, and connect it to your LIFX account. From there, there are many things that can be done, such as: • Scheduling - LIFX's app has the ability to set times for lights or groups of lights to change colors and brightness to change. These can even be set based on sunrise/sunset. • Customization - Custom color/brightness combinations can be saved to a palette for easy use later on. As with other smart lights, saving groups of lights' current appearances as scenes is also possible. • Integrating with other services - I've only used Google Assistant and IFTTT, but both work perfectly with the lights. With IFTTT, for example, the lights can be set to specific hex-code colors or be set to flash based on events, turning my first light into an alert light. These lights definitely do a good job at displaying any color I want. In the app, there are two color wheels, one for natural light colors and another one for full-color selection. Additionally, the brightness can be fine-tuned to what percentage I want. If there's any small thing to point out here, it's that I can see the light abruptly change between colors every couple degrees around the color wheel, meaning the lights can't display every color, but they still have a very wide range of colors they can use! In conclusion, if you are thinking of starting the process of turning your home into a smart home, or just want to have full control of the lighting of a room, I recommend LIFX Mini Color lights.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy way to add visual interest to any space
*by A***R on August 15, 2019*

I live in a small loft covered in white wallpaper. I decided to use lighting and plants to decorate the space. This is my third LIFX bulb and I am satisfied with my purchases. My other two are the regular LIFX bulbs. They work great and are easy to set-up and use without the need for a hub. The colors reflect well on the white wallpaper. The different color and brightness settings are good to have. The LIFX app is quite intuitive to use and the available scenes blend colors well. The LIFX bulb pairs easily with my Amazon Echo device and Apple HomeKit. I highly recommend investing in strategic lighting that doesn’t have to cost a lot. Use this with any of the good, affordable lamps at IKEA or any home goods store. It helps set the mood.
