Being a South African Indian, and growing up in a western environment, I found it difficult to relate to the books written by Indian authors. I was very dissappointed when I found that the western authors, though clearly giving out the Vedic Astrology principles, often tinted this with their own teachings and own worldview about they *think* vedic astrology should be. I searched far and wide for a beginner book that I could relate to on a spiritual level, and a level that contained knowledge passed down in a bona fide disciplic succession.When I got my hands on Science of Light about a month ago, I felt that my prayers had been answered!!! My eyes were immediatly drawn to the mantras and the diagrams in the book. I was hooked and fascinated!!!Everytime I open this book to read, I am inspired to learn more.The book is written to take you through the beginner process. The style is easy to follow and principles are explained in a step by step manner. Everything that is explained is linked to a spiritual level, but its not "in your face" spirituality. It is gentle and takes into account the western audience.The book is an important stepping stone if you want to further your studies.I recommend this book to everyone. For those new to Vedic Astrology, it will give you the tools needed to work with Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra (BPHS), the "bible" of Vedic Astrology. However, I would start to read Braha’s books first to get a contemporary American understanding of Joytish. This book takes the works of Braha to the next level.
