Just bought 10 more - We took a chance and were quite pleased. We purchased 10 caterpillars and received at least 13. All of them made it to the crysils stage, one or two didn't emerge but the rest went like clockwork. We just released them with our daughter in the back yard and she was very into it. We are so pleased we are purchasing another 10. Also I should mention we are in California and all of them survived the trip all the way from Florida! Review: 14 out of 14 Beauties! - I bought two sets tiny caterpillars in Mid-May. When we got them, they were so tiny and so much fun to watch grow over the next two weeks. Today is June 5 and I’m happy to report, 14 out of 14 butterflies were released into the world! It was amazing to see them grow and so easy because of the cup of food that comes with it. After they formed the chrysalis, we took the top off and attached it to the side of the habitat. Once they arrived, we added a couple cotton balls with Gatorade/sugar water and fruit at the bottom for them to enjoy. This was an awesome experience and we will be back next year to get another batch! Highly recommend! ## Features - WATCH CATERPILLARS TURN INTO BUTTERFLIES: Experience the inspiring journey of metamorphosis as you watch caterpillars undergo the miraculous transformation into beautiful butterflies right before your eyes! - 10 CATERPILLARS INCLUDED: Receive 10 live caterpillars! What can I do??** A: Try placing a paper towel on the bottom of the butterfly habitat you will use. Then gently tip them onto the paper towel at the bottom of the habitat. I only had one come loose from the paper, but it did survive and emerge from the chrysalis. Avoid touching them as much as possible. **Q: The Cats ate a hole through the paper lid. What do I do?** A: You can cover the hole with more paper. Try using a paper towel. One of my students told me their dog ate the entire cup of food and caterpillars! Not much you can do about that. **Q: Do I need to buy a little net structure for them in addition to this kit? Where do they attach the cocoon to?** A: You should buy one of the butterfly net enclosures for them. Once they make their chrysalis, you can pin the paper they’re attached to, to the inside of the net. Ours are hatching this week! **Q: How long does it take for them to grow to butterflies?** A: The directions were pretty accurate on estimating the length of time. As I recall, it was 3-4 weeks. All of the caterpillars were not the same size, so they formed their chrysalis at different time and became butterflies at different times. At lease one caterpillar was much smaller so it took longer for it to grow and form a chrysalis. I think she named him "Tiny". ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great experience! Mine were all moving and ready to go. I ordered 10 and got 3 extra! Which was a nice surprise. Looking forward to watching the process with my kids! *First 2 pics are day 1 of receiving them. Second 2 pictures are them today, 6 days later! Will keep updating their journey! Out of 13 caterpillars, I got 12 healthy butterflies! They were so pretty and so cool to watch the process. The 13th caterpillar was the runt. It's chrysalis was so tiny and I knew it wouldn't be okay. It did come out, but horribly deformed. I hand fed it, brought it outside for some fresh air and sun and humanely euthanized it. I felt bad, but I was not about to let it suffer. It was all a really amazing experience for myself and my children! Would definitely order again and suggest you do too! ## Frequently Bought Together - Clearwater Butterfly Live Painted Lady Butterflies - 10 Live Caterpillars - Live Caterpillars to Butterflies - Caterpillars for Butterfly Kit - Mesh Cage Not Included - Live Butterfly Kit - 10 Count - Insect Lore Butterfly Garden Kit, Painted Lady Butterfly Kit with Voucher for Live Caterpillars, Butterfly Habitat, STEM Journal & More --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/489601109-10-live-painted-lady-caterpillars-to-butterflies-butterfly-activity-kit](https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/489601109-10-live-painted-lady-caterpillars-to-butterflies-butterfly-activity-kit) --- *Product available on Desertcart South Africa* *Store origin: ZA* *Last updated: 2026-10-15*
