Yes they rust coloured and hour get dirty hands, but i knew thst reading the reviews. I had considered hammeriteing them, but thought the rust colour was more natural in my environment. Thanks** A: The previous answers are correct. The pins are not coated. We've had them in situ for about a month holding up chicken fencing and a slight bloom of rust is appearing. They are however an excellent robust product and rust will not affect their performance.as they are solid steel and would take decades to rust through. I use them to support netting to keep butterflies and birds off my crops on the allotment. On a 8' x 3' bed I would put one in each corner and a further one opposite each other on the 8' length. Hit a number of stones on the way down as we had to go deep due to mesh only being 500 cm.
