Finally, I have found a book that meets my needs perfectly! I have followed Lightspeed Spanish with Gordon & Cynthia on You Tube and Spotify for a while, finding their presentation engaging and interesting.This book pulls everything together in an ideal way for me and although I was initially reluctant to spend £25 on it, it’s proving well worth the money. The grammar is explained very simply and clearly and is always relevant to the text.My interest in learning Spanish is to enable me to talk to my Spanish friends, who happen to be English teachers, in their own language and to be able to strike up conversations with Spanish people when on holiday. This book is giving me the confidence to do that.A few of the criticisms I have seen in other reviews seem to be nit-picking, proving that you can never please all of the people all of the time. I figured that the majority of the early comments would be ex-students or friends and family of the authors trying to boost ratings and push sales. Anyway, as soon as I spotted the "look inside" feature I bought it, and I'm happy with my purchase.Here's my opinion, and where I'm coming from as a learner:I've been hovering around a B1/ B2 level of Spanish for a long time & I'd got to the point where I'd done all the Practice Makes Perfect series of books and exhausted what is out there in terms of podcasts and other resources. I'd say that this book is suited to intermediate learners., The text is engaging & the combined audio leads to a better level of comprehension.The few reservations that I have stem from the book trying to be all things to all people. I think that beginners would struggle to comprehend how to formulate the Spanish text into coherent sentences, especially later on. (When verbs can have multiple uses, some kind of clarification would have been handy, with learning point close to hand).Watering down the grammar was commendable, a clear attempt to demystify something that for a lot of Brits only adds to their problems when learning a second language (largely due to state schools not having taught grammar since the mid 60's)As others have said the book is huge, it could have been smaller. That being said, for those that like to make notes, they'll have plenty of room in which to do so. The audio comes from a download rather than a c.d. Being able to pair the audio with a Kindle version of the book would have been a nice option, then I could have kept it all on my iPad.Finally, there are a few typos:Chapter 32) text says Madre - Os lo agradecemos. Audio says Os lo agradezcoLesson 25) Aduve instead of Anduve (answer key)Lesson 28) Estas casa son grandes instead of Estas casas (answer key)The book is a first edition, the faults that I found didn't impinge on my enjoyment. Soon I hope, Congrats, keep them coming! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book from Gordon and Cynthia *by A***L on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 June 2021* An excellent book for anyone learning Spanish. I am nearing the end of Victor's Adventures in Spain and am looking forward to reading about more of his adventures in the next book. At the beginning of the book the Spanish is fairly simple and Cynthia reads the story slowly and clearly in the audio download, then as you progress through the chapters the Spanish gradually becomes more difficult and Cynthia reads at her normal speaking speed. I have been using the book to practice my speaking and listening skills by first listening to a chapter without looking at the text, then listening again whilst reading, stopping the audio every sentence or two to read aloud what I have just heard. After that I listen to the whole chapter again without looking at the text and find I can follow it better than the first time. Between each chapter is a short section explaining some of the grammar, always in a way that makes it easy to understand, and a few exercises.
