Mine went directly onto patio slabs and though I was concerned that the mat was too thin (it is pretty thin) it is perfectly adequate as a base and sitting in the hot tub it does feel cushiony. I used to use a piece of old carpet before so this has made it look much smarter and appealing. The click together very well and are nicely rounded easy to use and are great quality. They are even stamped with the Lay Z Spa logo - nice touch!The downside to these mats are they are very thin, for £40 I would have expected a descent thickness, whilst being fully understanding of this is just a protector for the tub, I feel that for the price they should have been a bit thicker.Other than that, I'd recommend these mats for what they are. There are cheaper alternatives out there which would do the same thing and be just as good, if not better. However I'm the type of person that likes buying the genuine kit for the product. Just personal preference nothing more. I could certainly have done this a cheaper way.Overall: I'd buy it again if I had to.
