The pieces are smaller than you might expect from the photos--remember these are children's hands you see, and the photo gives the illusion that the pieces are fairly large. Most of the pieces are 1 to 1 1/2 inches high. And they are very smooth, so they slip off each other easily. My 4 year old grandson is a master builder with blocks of all sizes, both wooden and plastic--but he reached frustration level very quickly trying to balance these. So, I would think twice about the age and dexterity of the child you are buying this for. That said, he did enjoy just playing with the pieces and telling stories. Its a fun game, which consists of a group of well-made wooden animal pieces in different colours, cleverly shaped and ridged so its possible to stack them in a variety of ways. The winner is the player who stacks all their animals first - but beware, if you knock the stack over, you have to add the pieces to your stock and start all over again!
