In 1887 a man named Niroku Masaki started a small company making pencils in Tokyo. Almost 100 years later in 1979 the first uni-ball rollerball pen was created.
Its quality and writing performance made it an instant hit in Japan and America. Fast-forward another 15 years to 1994 and the eye rollerball that Uni-ball is now known for was created. Since then it's popularity has continued to grow, making it one of the UK's most popular rollerball pens.
One of the ideas from the uni-ball team in Tokyo is the Signo TSI erasable pen. It's heat sensitive ink turns transparent when you use one of its two erasers, allowing you to correct your mistakes.
Niroku's original 10 man Masaki Pencil Manufacturing Company was rebranded Uni Mitsubishi Pencil Company in 1952; it employs over 3500 people and it's uni-ball pens are sold in more than 100 countries around the world.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is 1mm too thick a line to use in a exam?**
A: I dont think so. I'm not entirely sure. I did some research about it for exams and read exam rules but it just mentions a black or blue pen. However, when I did my GCSE I remember somewhere mentioning the thick shouldn't be over 1mm. Just so you are aware, this pen has white colored ink. I'm jusy informing you so you dont accidentally purchase this having thought it was black. I do recommend this for black paper though because it is really vibrant.

**Q: How does this compare to the sakura gelly roll pens in white please anyone know?**
A: The uni 153 as a slight edge over the Sakura.
Both great products.

**Q: Can it be used on acrylic paintings**
A: Yes it can be

**Q: I need a white pen for my gcse photography book - which has black pages. does this pen smudge? does it last long?**
A: The ink in these pens is a thicker consistency than a normal pen, it's more like a gel and so needs a bit of time to dry, (not too long!), which means they can smudge beforehand. They leave a raised texture on the page once dry. I cannot really vouch for how long they last, as I only use them in my artwork, rather than for prolonged written work, but I would guess they last less time than an ordinary Biro. They are lovely to use though, very smooth and produce a striking effect. Hope this helps.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Buy IMMEDIATELY!
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 28 December 2025*

This pen, by far is the best white pen out there. As an art student we write on black card frequently. This pens flow is smooth and consistent and there is no streaks! Its brilliant, and its not even expensive! I have found that Japanese pens, especially Mitsubishi are superior.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good value for money white ink pen.
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 14 July 2020*

Very happy with this pen, which did exactly what I wanted it to. Good quality of the ink itself, enabling me to both correct a cartridge pen sketch and act as a stylistic tool for a pop art piece (where I wanted to blend felt tips into a pseudo-Ben Day Dot pattern). Worked very well with the felt tip pens; my words of caution would be1) To let it dry & don't try to do too much with it all at once (you'll have to keep a tissue nearby to keep the nib clean but for me that is no bother at all).2) Be realistic about what you can achieve with it. It's not a correction fluid, though it can act like one if you use it cautiously. It can certainly cover up light pencil marks but see point 3 if you're trying to go over anything heavier.3) Test it out beforehand! And then test it some more.Overall, a very good value for money white ink pen. I'm impressed & I'll be buying more of these for my art projects.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great White Pen
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 5 September 2020*

I've been look for a decent white pen to add to my stationery collection for a while and now I can confidently say I have one and I would recommend it to other people that are in need of a white penPros:- When used on top of other stationery items the pen produces a true white colour- The design of the pen is very nice and easy to hold- Less expensive than other white pens- Smooth when using itCons:- When using it on top of markers that I consistently use, the ink goes milky doesn't retain its whiteness
