Depending on the weight of the garland, I would suggest perhaps 1 every 20 cm. It will only adhere to dust-free and smooth surfaces (I know this from experience of using hundreds of these over the last 8 years!). If there is moisture or heat (from a real fireplace), then these clips will not be suitable at all. The adhesive will deteriorate in heat and moisture. Good luck! **Q: Do they stick to wood?** A: I have used them on painted wood window architrave to hang fairy lights. They have been hanging for 6 months so far. I have not yet removed them so cannot comment on their removal. Make sure the wood is not dusty **Q: Where can I find adhesive strip refills for these?
