A: No spills when the bottle is upside down or flipped around. My little one has thrown this around and banged it multiple times and it still works as it should- no spills (you do have to make sure that the seal is in place properly after washing and filling).

A: No, they just need to suck. The spout is connected to a straw that goes down to the bottom of the beaker.
