The vertical part swivels on the end of the arm so it should be able to turn 180. **Q: How wide is the clamp mouth? What is the thickest thing you could clamp this to?** A: I have it clamped on the handle bars of a bike to use my iPad during exercise. I think it is somewhere between 3/4" and 1" in diameter. I hope this helps. **Q: What are the dimensions of the lip that the music sits on?** A: The lip is 1" x 10" **Q: Can the plate be removed from the mounting arm and used on an existing VESA compliant monitor mount?** A: You may be able to "modify" the actual plate mount to accept a VESA compliant monitor mount, but I donl;t know since I use it for it's intended purpose as a music stand attached to my boom mic stand as I'm a singing drummer.The challenge will be in the mount. The arm attaches to the plate by sliding onto the arm.
