The alternative has always been chlorine bleach or TSP but the problem with those cleaners are that they leave the wood surface with a very unnatural bleached look that rarely comes out uniformly clean, more often than not it has a "blotchy" look as if a bucket of bleach was thrown onto the house. Cedar Wash does not contain bleach nor does it require bleach to be added. Cedar Wash comes in a powdered form that when mixed with water creates millions of tiny little bubbles; these bubbles loosen all the old dead wood particles to be easily washed off along with any stains from mold. Our secret is the natural adhesives that we added to keep the product on vertical or steep pitched surfaces long enough to clean before running off. If your cedar had an old stain or sealer on them, the Cedar Wash will penetrate it, dissolving the old stain enough to be washed off. A light brushing with a scrub brush and a hose powered rinse is all that is needed to clean up your cedar shakes or shingles and save them from rotting away. Every minute or so I would take the garden hose and spray clean the brush and then back to brushing the wall. Once I got the all the wall brushed, I took the hose on jet spray and hosed the wall down thoroughly. Since the siding was exposed to cleaner and water it still looked pretty dark but I could see various spots of patches of red showing through. After the shed thoroughly dried after about 4 hours, the wall looked great about 90%. I touched up a couple of areas and am now 100% satisfied. Here is what I did……. I took a 5 gallon bucket and added1 gallon of water to it. I next added 1 cup of this product to it and then used my electric drill w/stirring paddle to mix it up for about 13 min. I took this 1 Gallon mixture and put it into a 1 gallon sprayer. I started spraying at the top of a wall and could immediately see a dark sludge flowing down the wall. I scrubbed the siding with a handheld good bristled brush. You will be amazed at how gunked up the brush gets and what’s flowing down the wall. Every minute or so I would take the garden hose and spray clean the brush and then back to brushing the wall. Once I got the all the wall brushed, I took the hose on jet spray and hosed the wall down thoroughly. I didn’t realize how dirty the wood was until using this! What a difference!! Easy to use. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works but don’t expect the impossible *by M***R on July 21, 2019* I have approximately 500 sq. Ft of rough cut cedar siding. My siding had many decades of build up to the point it just looked like black siding. On contact you will see residue running to the ground. Sprayed it continuously and let it sit for 15 and up to 30 minutes and repeated process using a 3000 psi pressure washer with 45 degree angle. It was lightening up but wasn’t stripping the cedar like I wanted. So I resorted to 15 degree angle on the pressure washer and about 2 inches from the siding. Washed with the grain. Yes it raised the grain in some areas but in the end I had a light colored cedar. Later on after it dried really well I sealed it with clear sealer and it brought out some of the red again. I don’t have before pictures but I posted some of the “after sealer” results. It’s been two weeks since I completed it. These pictures are in the shade and doesn’t really show the full color. My main point is, this product doesn’t work miracles nor did I expect it to. But it did help with the process. Scrubbing wasn’t an option. I ruined several brushes trying to scrub it.
