Review: Chamberlain CIGCWC Gateway - The Perfect Solution to My Morning Paranoia - I received this today. This device works absolutely flawlessly. I bought the device because I'm paranoid. I'm constantly rushing out the door in the morning (teenagers in the morning are stressful) due to having a kid who does everything last minute. It's like diffusing a bomb and clipping the right wire with 1 second left. Anyway, I digress. This has caused me to, on occasion, leave the garage door open and have to drive back from the office to shut it. Usually, it's actually closed, however, probably 2 out of 10 times I've driven back, it was actually left open. That's enough for me to worry. This device is basically a gateway that allows you to send commands to your garage door via your local network IP. Chamberlain also provides an Internet gateway that communicates with your local gateway so you can access your garage door through your browser. Simple and convenient. The local gateway can be connected through your router, a wireless extender with a LAN port, or an Ethernet hub. I connected mine through the router but may move it to the extender to reduce clutter. Here's a breakdown of what I think about the CIGCWC gateway: A. Installation - This literally took approximately 10 minutes or less (including unboxing) total using the following steps: 1. Remove existing wall control unit in your garage. I didn't unplug anything. All you need is a Philips head screwdriver. 1 min. 2. Install the new wall control unit. This involves hooking-up a white and a red wire and attaching the unit to the wall. Test the new wall control unit. It should work just like the old one without having to do anything else. 1 min. 3. Take the gateway, and, using your phone, take a picture of the serial number on the unit. You'll need this later. 30 sec. 4. Use the included Ethernet cable to establish a wired connection to your router. 10 sec. 5. Use the included power adapter to plug the gateway into your wall outlet. 5 secs. 6. Open a browser window on your computer and navigate to [...] and create an account. The site has instructions. Simply follow them. 2 mins. 7. Check your email and verify your account. 30 sec. 8. Log in to your account at [...] and add the gateway to your account using the serial number you took a picture of in step #3. There are steps on the website. Once added, use the web interface to open and close the garage door. It should work without you having to do anything else. 1 min. 9. Download the MyQ app to your mobile devices (either using the link on the website or directly from your device using either Google Play for Android or the Apple App Store for Apple devices), install, and log in using the same account you used when you initially setup your account in step #6. I installed mine on 3 Android devices. 2 phones and 1 tablet. This only took about 2 mins per device since I just pushed the app to all devices using the web interface instead of downloading the app individually for each device. 10. Test each of your mobile devices using the MyQ app to ensure that you can open and close the garage door. That's it. From there, you can set all sorts of rules to run such as what you would want your garage door to do in case you left it open. You can even set push notifications that will notify when any of the set events occurs. I set mine to notify me if the garage door is left open for more than 10 mins. If you have an older garage door opener like I do, and you want to add remote access, this device will do the trick. I got mine on sale for $68.50 on desertcart and it was worth every penny. Highly-recommended.
Review: No More Worrying About if I Closed the Garage Door - This product works exactly as I expected and I know it will save me some worry. In the past, I've had to turn my car around after leaving home because I couldn't remember if I closed the garage door . After installing this product, that will no longer be a problem. The garage door opener interfaces with the Chamberlain app on my iPhone, so if I ever wonder if I left the door open, I can log in, verify and open or close it if necessary. The device also interfaces with the Alarm.com system and app so I was able to easily integrate it into my alarm system and have only one place to manage everything. I can also setup alerts in either app to notify me if the garage door has been left open for a certain period of time as well as notify me when the door opens and closes in general. Installation was very simple. To install the gateway, I only had to plug it into an electrical outlet and plug it into my router via the the cat5 cable that is included in the packaging. There were no configuration items to setup other than registering the serial number into the chamberlain app. Installing the garage door opener controller was also very simple. It works seamlessly with my LiftMaster garage door opener. To my understanding they are the same company anyway, but the button also states that it should work with most major brands. To install the controller, I removed the old one by unscrewing it from the wall and removing the two low voltage wires (1 red, 1 white). Then I replaced it with the new panel, same wires, same configuration. FYI, the controller does not come with junction box screws so I had to reuse the ones from the old controller. After connecting the wires and screwing it back into the wall, the open and close door button worked right away. The garage door opener controller has the standard features, motion activated lights, hold button, etc. It also has a "TimeToClose" feature to automatically close the garage door after a few minutes of your choosing. All in all, I was able to set everything up in less than an hour. Now I can login and view the status of the garage door, open and close it remotely, and receive alerts if its been left open for longer than the time limit I set. I love the device and have already recommended it to several friends and co-workers.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this unit need a hardwired ethernet cable connected to my router or does it connect via WiFi after set up. I do not have a Ethernet jack closeby**
A: You connect the gateway directly to your router with an ethernet cable. The wall control is not plugged into an ethernet jack so you should be fine.

**Q: I have two garage doors on my garage. Will I need 2 control panels in the garage and/or 2 wifi controllers in my house?**
A: You will need two controllers in the Garrage and one wifi

**Q: How Do I lock out remote operation at night, Like my 4th car is standing outside I do NOT want anyone to just break the window and open the garage.**
A: My Chamberlain has a lock button on the switch that is permanently mounted in the garage wall. If I push this before I go to bed it locks the garage door opener so no remotes will open it until the unlock button is pressed. It is not wireless though, yet a nice way to lock up the garage as your making your last run around the house to lock up all the doors before heading to bed.

**Q: I want to purchase a second wall-mount controller, since I have 2 garage doors. What part # can I order to receive a 2nd controller?**
A: LiftMaster 888LM Security+ 2.0 MyQ Wall Control Upgrades Previous Models 1998+

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Technology meets piece of mind
*by C***P on October 27, 2013*

My household has historically had problems leaving the garage door open when we leave the house. More times than I can count, I myself have turned around a block or two from the house to double check the door was down. Our garage door opener is a Chamberlain about 5 years old. I remember hearing a couple years after we got our opener that new openers were now coming with pre-installed internet connectivity. But at that time the cost of those new openers was almost triple what we paid for our current opener, too much to justify scrapping our perfectly good opener. Fast forward a couple more years, I was searching Amazon to see if the price of those built-in internet openers had come down in price yet when I stumbled upon this Chamberlain connectivity kit. I am SO glad I did. I ordered this almost immediately and thanks to my Prime Membership, it was here 2 days after I ordered it. I was surprised at how easy the installation of the wall mounted button was. That literally took me less than 5 minutes to take the old one down and put the new one up. Next on to the connecting of the gateway to my wireless router. I had an extra port available on my wireless router so connecting it was no problem. If you don't have an open port you can get a 5 port ethernet switch here on Amazon for cheap. Now on to the setting up of the online account. This was the part that definitely took the longest. I think it took me a couple try to get our garage door to register and show up. I think the first time I tried, I being the computer literate person I am, didn't really read the instructions and just went straight to doing what I thought was right. Second try I followed the steps in the instructions because apparently the order in which you add devices in your online account matters. Anyways, start to finish install was no more than 20 minutes. AMAZING! Works like a charm! After I got the online account setup, I downloaded the app for our Android smartphones, signed in the username and password and presto, there was my garage door showing closed for 4 minutes. I then went out to the driveway and opened and closed the garage door at least 3 times from my app in pure amazement that here we are in 2013 and I can control my garage door with my phone! I have read several reviews that state app failure or issues with logging or loading activity. I personally, have had no issues with any of this. Every time I have logged into the app on my phone, I can log in successfully and the door status shows with no problems. We have not used the feature to have the door auto-close after the 1, 5 or 10 minute options. Just last week I used my app from work to let my sister in to our house to pickup some items we had in our refrigerator for her. She was amazed that like magic the door went up and like magic the door went down! At least once a week when I am the last one leaving the house I get several blocks away and cannot distinctly remember if I closed the garage door or not. So thankful to have my handy, dandy Chamberlain MyQ app to check and put my mind at ease that yes the door was down. The one con that we all do unanimously do notice is the motion detector for the interior garage light is not nearly as sensitive as the motion sensor on our previous wall control panel. The new motion detector does work however previously we could be all the way on the complete other side of the garage and the motion detector would pick up our movement. Now the sensor only detects movement within about 10 feet of the wall unit. Slightly disappointing but if a person previously had no motion controlled light in their garage than this would not even be noticed. This is the only reason for the 4 stars because I know Chamberlain has a more sensitive motion detector because I own it, not sure why they would downgrade something like that in newer models. Overall, we have had this product now for almost 5 months with no issues. It was a great item purchase for a great price. I have recommended this to several people, probably a more than once in those first couple weeks we had it installed. Thank you Chamberlain for making an affordable item to add on to older models that did not have this MyQ technology pre-installed. *****UPDATE 12/18/14***** We have now had this item installed for almost 18 months now and still as in love with it as we were on the first day. Have had maybe 1 or 2 instances where the android app would not let us log in but when that happened i just logged in through my desktop computer at work with no issue. Those glitches were easily attributable to app updates or maybe even network connectivity. The app itself is far less glitchy than many major social media apps on the market today that I'm sure almost everyone uses. So in my book, the app works great, has a simple interface and does exactly what it should. One thing I did notice some other reviewers mention was that the app notifications were delayed. I did notice this for me occasionally but in my case my phone is set to shut my data off when the screen goes off so I am not wasting data. When I am somewhere connected to wifi (like the office) there is no delay on app notifications. I suspect that anyone that complains app notifications are delayed on their phone, check their data settings as the delay is likely linked to the phone's data settings. Never had a delay in email notifications ever. Only other time we have not been able to access the gateway was when our home internet was being very spotty and would drop our connection from time to time, which is in no way Chamberlain's issue so I can confidently say that after 18 months with this product installed we have had ZERO issues with the gateway and wall receiver. Still one of our best purchases we have ever made (AND under $100!) and we still recommend this product over and over again.
