## Overview

The GEAR AID Wetsuit Repair Kit features a 10”x6” black neoprene patch that permanently repairs tears and worn areas on wetsuits and other stretch fabrics using a simple household iron. Designed for high-flexibility zones, it resists abrasion and maintains durability through repeated use and washing, extending the life of your premium neoprene and Lycra gear with professional-grade, heat-activated adhesive technology.

## Description

Extend the life of neoprene gear and fix it when it rips using Tenacious Tape Neoprene Patch. Simply just cut the 10”x6” patch to size and activate it using an iron to create a permanent repair for neoprene waders, wetsuits and more. Previously known as Iron Mend, this iron-on fabric patch kit can be used to reinforce seams and high-wear areas including elbows, knees and underarms. It’s also designed to repair other stretchy fabrics like spandex and Lycra. For ultra-stretch repair that lasts, use Tenacious Tape Neoprene Patch.

Review: Used to repair my cycling bib shorts - I crashed on my bike and had several large holes ripped into my lycra cycling bib shorts. The holes were essentially parts of fabric that just abraded off as I slip on the pavement, so there was no underlying fabric when I put the patch on. The largest hole was about 3" in diameter. Since the shorts were fairly expensive, I thought that I would give this repair a try, versus throwing out the shorts. After putting the patch on (using a hot iron) I had one corner that refused to stay adhered to the shorts. I had to iron it several times in order to get it to stick (I was always afraid of keeping the iron on too long and melting the lycra). In the end, I just kept the iron on longer and longer each time the corner of the patch started to come off the fabric. After the last time, the patch has stayed on even after several washings. The patch material is flexible and stretchy and I would highly recommend it for those of you looking to repair lycra. The patch is a really good repair for what I thought was an unrepairable hole. The patch fabric is not super thick and is quite stretchy...just like lycra. Very happy with this and I recommend it.
Review: Works well and easy to use - The girth of my thighs always causes the inseams near the crotch of my pants to wear out before any other wear begins to show. When this area of my neoprene workout pants started to wear thin and make it too embarrassing for me to do floor work when anyone else was around to see my pasty skin or underpants through the ever-widening thin spots, I finally got this patch kit and fixed my pants. It took a little creative maneuvering to get the most out of this patch and get sufficient coverage over the worn spots on account of the contours of the crotchular region I was needing to patch. Here's how I did it: 1. Assess the damage 2. Create a paper template that sufficiently covers the area to be patched 3. Cut pieces from patch material. I used 2 patches for the worn spots in the crotch on both sides (inside & outside) on both the front and back of the pants then used another little piece to cover a small rip on the waistband (not shown here) 4. I don't have a tailor's ham or a mini iron, so I used a piece of scrap fabric and glass-head pins over an old oven mitt to use my own hand to manipulate and hold the material while pressing small areas of the patch with the tip of my large iron 5. Position patch and use glass-head pins on seams to hold in place while ironing 6. Spot iron patch a little bit at a time, covering less contoured areas first then spot iron areas on either side of a pucker (being mindful not to iron a pucker or fold into the pants) 7. Carefully use scissors to snip the patch over the places where the pants are puckering (sorry for the blurry image - it was difficult to hold both the pants and scissors while taking a picture) 8. Spot iron both sides of the snip on either side of the pucker I did this in on both sides of the pants (inside and out) on the worn spots on both the front and back of the pants. It was probably overkill, but I had enough of the patch material for this amount of coverage and I didn't want to risk further wear on either side. The patches held up so well, they outlasted the whole rest of the pants. I would totally use this product in the future if/when I ever again have worn or torn neoprene to fix.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I tend to get holes around the chamois on my biking bibs, anyone ever use it around the chamois pad to patch a hole?**
A: Hello, Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, we have not used this product on anything other than scuba gear. As this product comes with a neoprene patch it would be my best guess that it works best on products that are the same material. However, the product states that it can be used on dry suits and fishing waders as well. Leading me to believe that this product is very heavy duty and might work for your needs. Please let us know how we may further assist you.Thank you,Gracehouseofscuba(858)581-2800

**Q: is the patch waterproof**
A: Yes. I have patched several bike shorts with this stuff and it lasts through many washings. I do not send my bike gear through the dryer so I can not comment on if it is heat proof--I bet that it is not heat proof.

**Q: Any thoughts on using this on stretch denim? Regular iron on patches do not come in a stretch version.**
A: Hello,I used this to mend biking shorts ..but some extra pieces worked great on my cotton cargo shorts that had a rip in the crotch..so , i think it would work on stretch denim..this patch isn't a typical hobby fabric store patch ...really good quality, made to hold up aftter washings ..hope that helps .

**Q: How large is the patch?**
A: Includes: 10"x6" Knee-Pad-Patch

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bib Short Repair
*by J***R on July 14, 2023*

I used these to a repair a hole in cycling bib shorts caused by a cracked carbon saddle that went undetected for a couple long rides. At first the adhesion was not great due to the amount of friction the repaired area demanded. So, I ended up sewing the patch around the edges to help prevent curl up, which allowed the patch to do its job. The patch visually matches well enough. Saved a $250 pair of bib shorts - I've used them 20-30 since the repair and the patch is still holding up.
