It works only when it is dark if you set the LUX sensor appropriately. It turns on immediately when I open the door. However, the timer isn't accurate. Sometimes, it switches off at the set time, and a few other times, it takes a few seconds longer. The device looks a little cheap. The company definitely need an English-speaking employee to correct their English in their manual/instruction. Overall, it's a fantastic product.
