Review: Does what it's supposed to do - all the time - UPDATE: (September 2nd, 2015): We took a major lightning strike to the house while I was away. I was over in Singapore at the time, and could not connect back home to my network - which is very unusual since my network NEVER goes down. When I got home I discovered a palm tree right next to the house took a direct hit from a bolt of lightning, and it blew out two circuit breakers in the house - including the one that the UPS is on - as well as my GFCI down in the garage. The good news is that the CP1500AVR protected all of my equipment. Apparently the CyberPower drained itself all the way down and then shut down the server (which is is attached to). I reset all the house breakers, and everything came back up again, but alas, the batteries would no longer take a charge, and were failing the self-test. So I ordered a new set of batteries ExpertPower ® 12v 9ah Sealed Lead Acid Battery with F2 Terminals (.250") / 2 Pack and replaced them today. All is back up and running, and the UPS performed a successful self-test. Fully expect to get another 4 years out of this product. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UPDATE (June 8th, 2013): This product is still going strong. It has protected me over and over, and has NEVER let me down. Review: CP1500AVRLCD -is compatible- with Corsair APFC PS - I received my UPS today and after several days of pure panic I was relieved to learn my fears were for naught. After I had already committed to the purchase I read about something I wasn't aware of. New power supplies using a technology called PFC. Apparently many people were finding that this model UPS doesn't place nice with power supplies that require a real sine wave, which this device does not supply. Oooooopsy.... Panic panic panic! Run about and wring hands for three days! Panic more !! I have two large, high power Hackintosh systems and one FreeNAS unit in a rack mount configuration and all three of them are FULL of hard drives. Between the three machines there are about 28 4tb hard drives installed. So it's a hefty load. But the thing that was scary is that all the power supplies are the new PFC type. When I got the UPS in I shut down one of the systems and plugged it into the UPS. I booted it into bios setup mode rather than the OS so if it failed the test nothing would be harmed. I pulled the power cord of the UPS from the all and the Hackintosh kept right on going like nothing had changed. Plugged it back in and pulled it again. Rock solid, no problem. The power supplies in my machines are Corsair HX650 and HT750 (x2) and after some more research it seems that Corsair power supplies are not as sensitive about the false sine wave this UPS provides. As for run time I have no concerns as long as they will keep the three machines powered up for 15 seconds to 1 minute. I have a whole house Generac generator that automatically starts up and transfers upon city power failure. When the city power fails the Generac self starts (runs on natural gas) and transfers the house from city to generator. The shortest start and transfer time I've seen is 15 seconds. I can imagine that maybe in the winter if it's really cold (which is very rare here) that it MIGHT take longer to crank up and transfer. So the Cyberpower unit only serves to carry the machines for a very short time until the generator kicks in. There's also a nasty, nasty downside to the generator, when it detects that city power has been restored it will automatically transfer the load back to the city and the generator shuts down to standby. But when it transfers from generator back to city, it's a very rapid cycle, like half a second. And electronics don't like rapid power on/off cycles like that. Especially computers. Even though it's only like 1/2 a second long that's enough to crash a computer and make all the clocks start blinking. So again the Cyberpower UPS will rescue my stuff from that nasty transfer business. I have no doubt it can carry three heavy Hackintosh systems for less than one minute and that's really my only need. I am pleased and relieved that it does play nice with my Corsair PFC power supplies after all. I will probably buy two more of these to carry the rest of the electronics at my desk and I'll probably buy several of the much smaller units to put around the house to cover when the generator does it's thing. And of course there is an added benefit of protecting my equipment much better than a $10 surge protection strip from Walmart would. As others have mentioned, the Mac software is pretty barren and bleak but it does work. It would be really nice if it could send a command through my LAN to tell all machines to power down but I guess I would have to get enterprise gear to have that ability. The price was right and this will do what I need, keep three machines running for under one minute. I just hope it doesn't make poo on itself like some people have mentioned theirs did.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is maintenance like on an UPS?  Isn't the battery constantly being overcharged?  How often should you replace a battery in an UPS?**
A: I purchased mine in August 2008 and it's March 2016 now.  The software is only just telling me now that I need to replace the batteries, so I'd say for me at least the battery life has been fantastic, with no maintenance.  This is in contrast to another CyberPower Unit I had, a CP1000AVR, and an APC unit I had, neither of which lasted even half as long as this unit has.  I can't recall if maybe those units weren't line interactive, but all I can say is that this UPS has been fantastic and zero maintenance until now.  Replacement batteries are $68 on Amazon or as low as $32 at other online sellers.

**Q: is this a better product than the apc  BR1500G ?**
A: I purchased an APC BR1500G about five months ago for a high wattage new computer build.  The build got delayed because of the demands of my academic job.  On September 8th, when it was pretty clear that Hurricane Irma was going to directly hit Naples, I thought about re-purposing my UPSs (four CyberPower 1000s, and the yet unused BR1500) for supplying light, power for my receiver (for listening to local radio broadcasts), and charging my iPhone and two iPads when the power inevitably went out.  The afternoon of Sep 9th, I plugged all five units into the wall to make sure that they had time to fully charge before the hurricane hit.   Being twice as heavy as the CyberPower units, I had great expectations for the BR1500.  Also, because it was new, I expected it to perform to its full potential.  Before anyone asks, yes, I read the manual's instructions for reversing the battery for the initial charge.  Irma hit Naples in the late afternoon Sep 10th with Cat-4 winds, and the power went out at about 6:00pm.  While it was still light, I tried to ready the APC for its job for the night.  For over an hour, I tried to coax power from the unit.  I tested the battery and found it to be fully charged, but when inserted in the unit, the APC remained dead.  I found that I could get power out of it if I kept the battery cover off and laid it on its side, but the current out the AC side was intermittent, at best.  Giving up on the APC, I used what I thought to be the newest of my CyberPower UPSs.  That first CyberPower unit provided power to three 35W LED lamps, and the receiver for over eight hours that first night when I shut it down.  It lasted an additional three hours the second night, while it was supplying light, running the receiver, and charging all three iDevices which were depleted during the day.  I got similar results from the second, and third CyberPower units (one of which was at least three years old).  The power came back on the fifth day after the hurricane, and I never got to the fourth CyberPower UPS.  When I read the warranty instructions for the BR1500G, they demanded that the faulty unit be sent directly to APC and not returned to the seller.  I decided to eat my mistake and include the BR1500 in the refuse bin with all of the rest of the hurricane debris (I removed, and kept the battery).  When we're not having a hurricane, power outages seldom last for more than a few seconds, and are mainly 1-2 sec brownouts, so I never really got to test the CyberPower units in any real-world application before the hurricane.  I have Thanksgiving week off and I intend to complete the computer build I started in May.  For me, choosing the CP1500 CyberPower for backup of the new computer was a no-brainer .  In my opinion, APC makes undependable units that I intend to avoid at all costs.

**Q: Does this UPS make any noise while it is running?**
A: ive had the 1500 unit for nearly 8 years with no noise or issue while running 2 pc's, a 55" tv, a 27" monitor, and a stereo receiver.  Just recently after the unit being unplugged and off for 3 weeks, it now has a quiet, yet annoying hum while powered up (still plugged to the wall with power)

**Q: If I have a 800 Watt computer but also want to plug other things into the PC, should I get the 810 watt model or this one?**
A: Honestly, it's going to depend on what you want to plug in and how well the wiring is in your home.  I am no electrical expert, but will give you my thoughts.  I doubt your 800 watt computer is really 800 watts, unless it has multiple video cards and maybe lots of water cooling.  My PC for example is a mid-range gaming rig with a single fan cooled video card, and with the PC and 32 inch HDTV monitor, it will be around 270 watts, but if I am gaming and have other apps running, it could peak above 520 watts.  Additionally if your wiring in your home is really strained, having some more wattage give you more of a safety cushion.  YOU DON'T EVER WANT TO EXCEED YOUR WATTAGE OUTPUT, else it will exceed the capacity of your UPS and everything will lose power, that is true of any UPS.  As far as additional stuff, it depends on how much power it will use.  I have in total, a PC, HDTV, DVR other stuff plugged in and runs just fine.  If you having something like THX speakers, the power can draw 100 watts if you are gaming, and that is a lot of juice to add on.  I had them plugged into the battery side, but moved them to surge only cause of the wattage output was a bit high.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reliable during outages, but the beep is brutal

Why I ordered this item: My office is on the same circuit as a bunch of other stuff and the lights flicker every time the HVAC kicks on. I wanted something to keep my desktop and monitor from rebooting mid-task. Likes: * The LCD cycles between load percentage, voltage, and runtime estimate, and I catch myself just watching the numbers shift. * I plugged in my PC, monitor and modem and pulled the plug from the wall to test it. Everything stayed on and I didn't even lose my mouse cursor. * The outlets are spaced out enough that my bulky power brick didn't block the socket next to it. * When the lights start to flicker I hear a soft click from the box and the lamp on my desk doesn't dim at all. No likes: * This thing beeps. Loud. If the power blips at night it wakes up the whole house and there's no easy way to shut it off without digging into a menu. * I ran the same plug-pull test with my monitor and modem plugged in too, and the battery dropped a lot faster than the runtime chart on the box suggested. * It's a big, bulky box. Finding a spot for it under my desk took some rearranging. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes That beep is piercing, like a smoke alarm going off next to my ear, and I wish there was a plain mute button instead of a menu to dig through. It kept my computer running instead of letting it die during that power blip, and that's enough to sell me on it.
