Review: Great product, low price - I got this rain cover about 5 months ago and didn't particularly like it. It is huge and doesn't work well with short lenses or lenses that extend. That's a lot of lenses. But, I recently got the new Tamron 70-200 G2 lens. The lens is a fixed ~8IN long, which is perfect for this rain cover. I took it out in a downpour this evening and it worked like a champ. My Canon 80D and the G2 are both weather sealed, but I wouldn't take them out in the rain without the rain cover. Too much water, then you are dealing with fungus (I assume, since I don't ever plan to let that happen). In any event, the rain cover did well. The camera/lens stayed dry. Its probably obvious, but I used the lens hood. That combo not only kept the camera and lens dry, but not even a drop got on the glass. Eventually my hands got moist, but I still had my arms attached to my hands, so water is going to eventually get there. The second most important point is I could still use the camera easily-- though live view was better than the viewfinder. To stress it a bit, I tried video. I expected a huge muffling sound, but that was overwhelmed by the rain drop sounds. Overall, this is a great product at a low price. Even if you only use it once a year, if you have a 70-200 lens (Canon, Nikon, Tamron, Sigma) it would be a good idea to have on hand.
Review: Used it in a recent blizzard - no issues. - I recently used the cover on my Canon 6D with a 24-105 lens. The lens cover was a bit too long for the lens, so at times I got the accidental vignetting effect. Since I did not want any part of the lens exposed to the elements (heavy snowfall), I decided to crop later as needed, rather than get the lens wet. It would be easier to secure the lens cover over prime lens, not so much so for zoom. You may want to have a camera strap with quick release locks, as it will not be possible to easily fit the camera with a standard strap in (you will have to take it off first). The material is very heavy duty, and good quality, nothing flimsy about it. The clear plastic is heavy as well - I could see and focus just fine through the viewfinder. Yes, it's not crystal clear, what do people expect? You must have realistic expectations. After being in the blizzard for well over an hour, my camera was safe and dry. That deserves 5 stars. I am happy with the product and would recommend it. Thanks for reading, hope it helps. P.S. I added a couple of shots to the customer gallery :)

## Features

- WATERPROOF NYLON BUILT FOR ACTIVE SHOOTING: While most camera rain covers are thin disposable PE plastic sleeves, the Altura Photo rain cover is constructed from durable waterproof nylon that holds its shape around your camera and lens during active use. It delivers maximum protection from rain, snow, salt spray, dust, and sand without collapsing, crinkling, or interfering with your shot. Built for photographers who shoot in real weather, not just emergency backup coverage.
- HAND SLEEVES AND FULL-LENGTH DOUBLE ZIPPER FOR COMPLETE CAMERA ACCESS: Two adjustable hand sleeves let you reach your camera controls, zoom ring, and shutter from both sides without removing the cover. The full-length double zipper runs the entire length of the cover, providing complete access whether you are hand-holding or tripod-mounting your camera. An ultra-clear back window panel keeps your LCD screen and viewfinder fully visible throughout your shoot.
- EXTERIOR HOOK-AND-LOOP STRAP AND INTERIOR ANTI-SLIP RUBBER FOR A WOBBLE-FREE FIT: A newly integrated exterior hook-and-loop strap combined with interior anti-slip rubber grips your lens or lens hood securely, preventing rotation, slipping, or wind-catch during movement. Easy to install and remove in seconds; compatible with most camera and lens configurations supporting lenses up to 8 inches. For best fit and weather performance, use with a dedicated lens hood.
- FITS MOST DSLR AND MIRRORLESS CAMERAS WITH LENSES UP TO 8 INCHES: Compatible with Canon EOS Rebel T6s with EF-S 18-135mm STM, Canon 80D with EF 50mm F/1.8 STM, Canon 7D Mark II with EF 70-300mm, Canon 5D Mark III with EF 24-105mm L, Canon 5D with 70-200mm F/2.8, Nikon D800 with 24-70mm F/2.8, Nikon D4, D750, D500 with AF-S 24-120mm F/4, Nikon D7200, D5500, D3300, D5100, and similar sized cameras and lenses from Sony, Pentax, Sigma, and Tamron. Verify your lens length before ordering; not recommended for smaller cameras with pancake lenses.
- FOLDS FLAT IN YOUR BAG AND SETS UP IN SECONDS: The Altura Photo rain cover packs down completely flat so it takes up virtually no space in your camera bag, making it an effortless addition to any kit for travel, sports, wildlife, and event photographers. Setup is fast enough to respond to sudden weather changes without missing a shot. Compatible with tripod mounting so you can keep shooting hands-free in any conditions, and works with a lens hood attached for added fit and weather protection performance.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How are the interior velcro straps intended to be used?**
A: Not the easiest rain cover to use but other than getting under a tent or using a specific kind of poncho I haven't found a better option. The are 2 velcro straps. One is attached to the inside of the sleeve. The other is loose and this one you wrap around the barrel of your lens or preferably the lens hood (loosely) before putting the camera in the sleeve. The other strap which is attached is pulled free and out the front of the sleeve. With the camera inside the sleeve, the front hanging strap is looped through the strap on the lens effectively attaching the sleeve to your lens.

**Q: Is there no danger of water condensation in humid tropical climates?**
A: Really hard to say, I've only used it in the north east U.S. and so far it's been fine. It won't keep humidity out of the cover, obviously the holes for hands stay open, but I mean it won't make a different in terms of how humid it would get inside. There's enough air flow, especially if the bottom zipper is unzip so just the cover rests on top. I will also say this though. I've tried using it once, it was very difficult to use honestly. It's near impossible to adjust a zoom lens manually and hard to see the LCD screen or through the eye hole. I would only buy this product if you just want something affordable to keep light mist or light rain or light snow out.

**Q: How does this rain cover work when using the camera's viewfinder?**
A: It will cover just enough of the camera from the rain. Therefore, it should not affect the camera's viewfinder in any way. Just make sure it's on the proper way.

**Q: Will this fit a Nikon D700?**
A: will this fit camera with a 150-600 lens on it?

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Must Have if Shooting in the Rain
*by R***N on November 25, 2018*

I photograph youth football. I'm out there with the kids in all sorts of weather--even rain. Even though my camera and lens are "weather sealed" (Canon 80D with 70-200mm f/2.8) I don't want to take chances. A friend of mine recommended the Altura rain cover, so I bought one. I've seen photographers shoot with plastic garbage bags wrapped/taped to their cameras and lenses. I've seen big bulky blanket looking contraptions that cover their gear. I didn't want anything like that. I needed something light, easy to use, and unobtrusive. I roll video sometimes--and need to be able to see the LCD screen, and I need to be able to quickly and easily get to the buttons and zoom ring. The Altura rain cover lets me do all that. Pros: The cover is long enough to protect my 70-200mm lens, with lens hood attached. There's rubberized grippy material on the inside of the cover where it meets the lens hood. There's a velcro strap on the outer part of the cover as well--so once you've got your camera and long lens inside this thing, it "holds on", and creates a water barrier around your lens hood. Pretty cool. There's left and right "sleeves" for me to put my hands into so I can work with settings buttons, and the lens zoom ring. If needed, there's also adjustable cords at the end of the "sleeves"--so I can cinch it to my wrists, and prevent water from coming in that way. On the underside of the cover is a zipper. If you leave it unzipped, you can mount your camera to a tripod (which is what I do). The entire backside of the cover is a flexible, clear plastic which allows me to see the LCD screen, buttons, etc. Although not really comfortable, I can also see through the plastic into the viewfinder. Cons: The rain cover doesn't let me connect my Rode video-mic (or much of anything else) to the hot shoe on top of my rig. Looking through the viewfinder is possible, but not comfortable--and probably not what the vendor thinks we'll do with it. Live View shooting is doable though. Once you've got your hand inside the cover there's not a lot of room to maneuver to fiddle with the zoom ring on your lens, or buttons and dials on your camera. Shooting sports, I need to be able to quickly operate the camera--and with this cover on, I had to re-learn what I could and couldn't do, and how fast I could do it. Bottom line: If you're like me (I live in the Seattle area) and think you might be out shooting in the rain and want to keep your photography gear protected while you do it, this rain jacket doesn't break the bank, and has some good features baked into it. It folds flat and doesn't get in the way in my camera bag. I forget it's even there most of the time. But I'm sure happy I've got it when it starts raining! Overall, I recommend the Altura rain cover.
