Review: Tasty bars for pack lunch - Great for packed lunches if you're lazy like me. I don't have a favorite as they both taste wonderful. They're individually wrapped inside their vacuum sealed pouch which is not resealable. The individual wrapping is fairly flimsy, but the bars themselves don't seem to get affected for the couple months I had them open. They are stiff little bricks and have the consistency of malt-o-meal if you've ever had it. Lightly crumbly but not super messy. Dry, yet enough moisture to break apart without being dusty. Unfortunately the ingredients are "empty calories" of wheat and starch/sugar. I didn't look at the nutritional facts before buying. Luckily this works for "throwing something in the tank" so my stomach shuts up. Would buy again, tasty, easy to eat and seems to store well even after opened.
Review: Good for people without sufficient access to cooking stoves/electricity for short periods of time. - I lose power in my building more than I would like both in summer and winter. Some nights and days I am without adequate electricity to cook food to safe temperatures. These are a good option when power is unavailable. Out of curiosity I tried one of each. They come sealed individually, but I would recommend leaving them in the vacuum-sealed package. They are cheaper than the ones on the Red Cross website, or comparatively priced. Pros: -Not a bad, inexpensive ration option -Stands up to the heat and humidity -Cookie-like consistency -Does not require heat, canned, or bagged, can be eaten raw or enjoyed with coffee or shelf-stable milk. -Ready when disaster (and hunger strikes) -Effective, One bar keeps you sated for hours or even a whole day, depending on your metabolism. -You can also break it up, add water or shelf-stable milk like Parmalat and make a cereal. -Small size allows more space in your bug-out bag. -Texture is not off-putting, no unprocessed chunks of ingredients -Packages arrived in pristine condition. -They taste good, coconut tastes like coconut, and cinnamon tastes like cinnamon cereal or oatmeal. Rations/food bars are worthless if you don't like the taste and refuse to eat them. Cons: -Slightly thirst-provoking and dry, but not to the point of needing a whole gallon of water. -Not good for diabetics looking to curb their sugar intake. -Not good for people watching their caloric intake, these are Emergency rations, they are similar in goals to MREs, to keep you sated and fed until you have access to hot food/meals again. -The existence of two flavors also means these are not to be consumed over extended periods of time because you will get tired of it. -Calories only, and a bare minimum of nutrients. So if you are vitamin-deficient or anemic in anyway, not a good source of nutrients. Remember to take your vitamins! Other thoughts: These are not a toy. These are basic rations for humans whose access to electricity, stoves, and food has been cut off.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are the bars individually packed? I would hate to waste the rest if I opened the pack and only ate a few**
A: I bought the white wrapper version of the survival ration. Mine had the outer foil wrapper that is commercially sealed. I also tried the bars inside. I won’t describe the flavor, but the bars inside were wrapped individually in celophane which is also sealed. I like the advice to keep everything inside a ziplock. The celophane is easily pulled apart or torn, you could open it with a dull butterknife 🙂

**Q: What are the dates on this product?**
A: Mine arrived today. Dated 2022 so they don’t expire until 2027

**Q: '5 year shelf life under all climatic condtions' but what does the package say about environmental/temperature storage conditions? Car storage?**
A: the package and design is ment for all climate and conditions good for 5 years that means is favorable conditions I think you could even figure far longer, and all but the most harsh or abusive situations would you have to worry. i'm sure 5 years in an oven or half submerged in semi acidic bilge water or the like as long as you take even cursory measures like don't get them too hot, include a couple of gallon zip locks and your set.

**Q: If the package is opened, how long does the individual wraps last, and can I just seal them in a ziplock bag, and store it in a container or fridge**
A: for the ones I got there was no inner bag at all just the aluminum vacuumed bag they come in long sticks not blocks or cubes so be careful with the main bag and add a ziplock 1 big or a few smaller, keeping then dry would be the key thing I suspect they wpild be fine for a few weeks or more once opened they are a solid cookie like form but not overly hard not alot of flavor too them. your best bet is to squirrel away some other foods and drinks that you can mix with water to make eating more hopeful.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ yellow cake ration.
*by J***Y on October 14, 2024*

I like these best because they don't make you thirsty like the others. Cinnamon/coconut is not strong, tastes like a dense yellow cake. *Pro tip* This is the best emergency food that will handle being stored in your car through a Texas summer. Freeze-dried camp food is great, but not designed for extended out-door summer storage.
