Review: Better WiFi than the internet company's router, Great upgrade from combo modem - Better WiFi than the internet company's router, Great upgrade from combo modem, I've always cheaped out on wifi extenders and decided to pull the plug and upgrade to a quality mesh wifi system, especially since these were on a decent discount. Right into why I love these and you should upgrade: 1.) My old extenders would mean I would have to log out of my main router wifi and connect to the closer wifi extender. This would mean that depending on the location I was in, I would have to disconnect and reconnect to different wifi networks. Because this is a true mesh system, there is only 1 wifi connection point and you will get the same strength throughout the house without having to connect separately to the extender. 2.) WIFI speeds are insanely faster than TP link extenders. I'm getting 150-160 download where I would use to get 50-60 download with my TP link extenders. 3.) easy to control and monitor through the home app. Cons: 1.) Setup was an absolute pain since I have an Arris Modem. How I got this to work without contacting support is for the main router connected to the modem keep disconnecting and resetting both the modem and router until it just magically connects. I know this is a horrible explanation but I couldn't get the router to connect to the Arris Modem until my 4th time resetting the two systems and it just magically worked. 2.) For your mesh extenders or routers that aren't connected to the modem, I had an issue where it just kept telling me "failed to connect". If this occurs for you just take the mesh extender and plug it in directly to the main router and set it up there. Once it connects successfully then unplug and place it where you want in the house. Sometimes there is an issue where these mesh extenders connect with each other perfectly fine but cannot connect to the internet and this resolves it.
Review: Signal strength issues sorted - This system took a matter of minutes to set up and gave me full strength wifi coverage across my 4,500 sq ft bungalow before I had even used the third access point. I may have been annoyed at buying too many if it wasn't for the fact that the satellite units also give speaker and google assistant functionality. Such an improvement on the router and repeaters I was using before. Only criticism is that it came with the wrong plugs for my region (Dubai) and I had to use adaptors.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can the two be connected via Ethernet to use a wired backhaul?**
A: There are many contradicting comments here. Probably Amazon updated the product listing after some of the comments were added. My answer (valid as of September 2022) is that you CAN do a wired backhaul ONLY if you purchase the 2-PACK of Nest Wi-Fi ROUTERS. However, if you are buying a 2-PACK of Nest Wi-FI ROUTER + POINT, then you CAN NOT do a wired backhaul since the POINTS do not have an ethernet port. The same applies to 3-PACK of Nest Wi-Fi ROUTER + 2 POINTS, you CAN NOT do a wired backhaul. I hope this clears things up. So if you want to do a WIRED backhaul, buy the 2-PACK Nest Wi-FI ROUTERS. If not, The ROUTER + POINTS bundle is really good for most homes.

**Q: Can I eliminate my present router that I rent from my carrier, Verizon?**
A: Yes. You can replace your current router with Nest Wifi router. But if you have a modem/router combo, you can't. Because you need a modem with a functional Wi-Fi network to connect your Nest Wifi router to. If that is the case, you can put your combo in Bridge mode or disable its Wi-Fi functionality, so that you can connect your Nest Wifi devices together to create a mesh network and avoid a Double NAT. You can find out more about Bridge mode and Double NAT here: https://support.google.com/wifi/answer/6240987?hl=en

**Q: Can I add these to my current Google Mesh network or are they incompatible with each other?**
A: Absolutely. Nest Wifi is compatible with existing Google Wifi systems. You can easily add a Nest Wifi point or use your existing Google Wifi system to extend coverage in your home.

**Q: Can this be the primary router and also have the google mesh points attached to the network for additional coverage?**
A: Yes. Definitely. I did precisely what you are asking. I had a three piece Google WiFi system, but was not happy with how close I would have had to keep each one together for decent performance. Where I had them, I was getting about half the data transfer rate I was expecting So, I replaced the one that was connected to my modem with the more powerful Nest router. The difference was amazing. I got an increase of about 50% in the throughput measured at each of the three Google WiFi nodes with two of them in the same location as before. Then, I put the one that was formerly attached to my cable modem in a new location to cover even more of the house. If you want to get really crazy, build your entire mesh with nothing but Nest routers. You give up the microphones and speakers of the less expensive Nest points (which I didn't want anyway), but gain more coverage and better performance. When I did that, my performance nearly doubled over what it was with the Google Wifi system I started with.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect for apartments in Dubai
*by U***D on 11 March 2020*

Perfect for apartments in Dubai. Specially if you have two bedroom apartment you can place one in each and it will create the mesh which keeps your signals at full strength in each room. The farthest point speed decrease a bit from the main room but that is usual as per the bandwidth spread. Also you can use points as google home speakers but not the router itself so have to connect home mini or hub to it.
