Review: Gorgeous year two blooms - This is year two for these hollyhock. I planted them last year and though a bunch sprouted the deer seem to really love them and they ate most of them. This year about 10 sprouted in the spring and the deer ate 6 of them. The 4 left are all budding and tonight the buds have started to open the most luxurious ands silky black petals I have ever seen. They are so beautiful. The blooms are healthy and even though they are just opening they are bursting with pollen. This is even better than I’d hoped for.
Review: AMAZING! 13 feet tall and still growing! - First of all, I did not read the directions and thought my seeds did not germinate. I planted them in May 2023. Everything in my garden grew except for these seeds. However, this winter around March 2024, something green started sprouting. There was still snow on the ground and more in the forecast so I hadn’t even started thinking about preparing my garden for spring. I figured the greenery was just weeds. When the snow melted and I finally got out there in May, those green things had gotten pretty big all in a row. So I did a google image search before I tilled up the whole garden bed. Lo and behold they were in fact the hollyhocks I had been cursing for never germinating lol. So I tilled the garden around them, added some more soil and manure and just kept them watered. They kept growing and growing and growing then finally little flower buds started popping up. They product the most beautiful black flowers unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I’m so proud of them and go outside to check on them everyday. 2 weeks ago I used my tape measure and got up to 13 feet on the tallest one. By the time I’m posting it though I’m sure it’s grown another 2 feet. They’ve all mostly gone to seed now but everyday more and more flowers keep popping up and they keep growing taller. I was not prepared for the amount of seeds these bad boys produce. I guarantee they will be growing here long after I move out. I’ve already collected 8 million of the seeds already. I have giant gallon size bags full of the seed pods. These are genuinely the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen and would be a great addition to any garden. But to have them takes patience and reading directions lol. 2 years means you plant them this year, and next year you will see plants. I have learned my lesson so you don’t have to.
