We tested how these dinoflagellates responded to different light variables for her project. Surprisingly they were very surviving for a very long time even under conditions with low light(which is not recommended), proving that they are quite resilient even when not given the recommended care. These creatures are amazing and interesting, beautiful and truly impressive. Review: Beautiful glow, easy care, and from a small business - These glowing critters are great! I encountered them years ago in an old culture I found in a science instrument collection I purchased as a part of an estate, and those have lasted decades. This newer culture is going strong too, after more than 6 months it is brighter than it was originally. They do outgrow their bag, so I’ve been periodically giving them away to friends and refreshing the dinonutrients periodically. They seem to thrive in a broader range of conditions than the care guide suggests, so don’t be afraid to give them a try! ## Features - Living Bioluminescent Marine Plankton: Natural glowing ocean water from living plant-plankton that grows and thrives in your home environment - Generous Quantity: 20oz (600ml) of living PyroDinos in DinoNutrients purified nutrient enriched seawater, containing over 90,000 plankton cells - Simple Care Requirements: PyroDinos require daily lighting with low to moderate room lighting for 8-12 hours a day, and loosening the cap once a week for air-exchange - Convenient Storage Solution: You may leave PyroDinos in their white Grow Pouch for 8 weeks after delivery, as they have enough resources to sustain them with only daily light - Growth and Maintenance: Find a clean, clear container to pour your PyroDinos into that will allow them to grow, adding small amounts of DinoNutrients every one or two weeks to support their development - Oxygen Production: PyroDinos produce fresh oxygen during daytime hours while removing harmful carbon dioxide from your environment - Immortal Plankton Cells: These marine organisms reproduce by cell division, allowing you to grow and expand your collection indefinitely ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Customer Reviews | 3.9 out of 5 stars 31 Reviews | ## Images ![PyroFarms PyroDino Bioluminescent Marine Plankton 3-Pack 20oz (600ml) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91PAoUyZ0xL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: Will these work in the day time for a classroom?** A: Yes. If you change their circadian cycle, they can be programmed to light up during daytime hours. You would need a dark area during the daytime and lights on a time timer for the nighttime. PyroFarms sells programmable LED grow lights. More information on this at PyroFarms. **Q: Can you pour these in you pool to make it glow for an evening party?** A: Most pools have chlorine and other chemicals which will kill the living algae. And these algae require saltwater with salinity close to ocean concentrations. **Q: Can they be used in a fountain? I’d like to create a water feature with salt marsh plants in a cabinet basically.** A: For short periods of time. We have never tested PyroDinos in a fountain long-term. **Q: At what temperature should I keep them?** A: Moderate temperatures are recommended. 9C to 31C (48F to 88F). The ideal temperature is 20C (68F). ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing! *by A***R on July 12, 2026* My daughter used these for a science experiment and won the science fair. I encountered them years ago in an old culture I found in a science instrument collection I purchased as a part of an estate, and those have lasted decades. This newer culture is going strong too, after more than 6 months it is brighter than it was originally. They died after the 3rd day. I ordered a second batch and followed the instructions. I added some of the Dyno nutrients to one of the three containers. It didn't help. All three containers were dead in three days again. ## Frequently Bought Together - Easy to Grow - Enchanting bioluminescent Marine Plankton, PyroDino 3-Pack 20oz Glowing Plant-Plankton 600ml - DinoNutrient Spout Pouch (10oz) for Growing Glowing Plankton (PyroDinos) - Blue Boost DinoNutrients - Enhanced PyroDino Nutrients for Growing Glowing Plant Plankton (PyroDinos) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/411718513-pyrofarms-pyrodino-bioluminescent-marine-plankton-3-pack-20oz-600ml](https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/411718513-pyrofarms-pyrodino-bioluminescent-marine-plankton-3-pack-20oz-600ml) --- *Product available on Desertcart South Africa* *Store origin: ZA* *Last updated: 2026-10-15*
