It’s foldable, but the material is very sturdy. When I had it full & was drinking, I squeezed it fairly hard & threw it in my backpack many times. It remained sound. I brushed my teeth, rinsed out refillable water bottles and cups, and washed/rinsed my invisible aligners with this. During long tours I carried it with water and there was no spillage. I loved that I could just squeeze it directly into what I needed (cup, aligners, bottles, my hands). Without squeezing there’s a nice steady flow of water that runs out of the filter which is nice. Initially the water will have like a charcoal taste, but it goes away after a couple of uses. Make sure you backwash the filter and rinse out the bag. It comes with the backwash syringe and it’s easy to use. Hint for removing the filter without it dropping: The top part of the bag is a stiff plastic, hold onto that when removing/twisting the cap for removal. Only water "purifiers" do that. LifesStraw's bag system (about $55) is a purifier though. **Q: What type of plastic is the bottle made of?** A: The thick plastic of the bottle itself is soft, allowing one to squeeze the bottle in order to take a drink. The cap is made of harder plastic. **Q: how many gallons of water total can one micro filter element in this unit filter, Are replacement micro filters available?** A: I did not know the answer to either question, so I referred to Google. Depending on the source, the replaceable filter is good for 264-500 gallons.
